Tugger entered the speakeasy just as the house band were playing their last number, after a quick glance towards them, the maned tom headed over to the bar and took a seat, ordering two drinks as he did so.
The last two days had been long, mornings in training with the other newest recruits for Felidae PD and afternoons keeping up his work at the Fishbone. Yesterday had been fine, mostly paperwork and checking the toms who had signed up were eligible to take the course. The officer assigned to the job had not been fussy, the department's need for cats, partiularly those not in the pay of a third party, was rather more pressing than hunting for perfect candidates.
Today, however, had been a lot more involved, and after working at the fishbone until opening time as well, despite his tiredness, Tugger had felt the need to unwind before returning home for the night.
He turned to watch the band finish their set, waving over the fiddler, a tabby tomcat, as a smattering of applause followed the music.

Jack spotted Tugger as he came through the crowd, and responded to the wave with a nod and a grin. He finished with the band, smiling to the crowd, and when the applause died down, he carefully put his fiddle away in its box, exchanged a few quick words with the other members of the band, and then hopped off the stage. He made a beeline through the crowd, headed for the bar, and his friend.
"Hello there, stranger," he said with a small wave, and sat down on the bar stool next to Tugger.

Tugger grinned at Jack, passing the second drink along the bar, "Bin' a while, ain't it. Guess we've both bin' busy. How are'y?"

Jack grabbed the drink and took a swig. "Thanks. Eh, can't complain. Bit disappointed the hunt for a place to live isn't really going anywhere, tho'. Ain't been havin' much luck." He stretched a little, and took another swig of his drink. "And yourself? How's things?"

"Don't drink it too fast." Tugger joked as Jack too the drink, "You're buyin' the next one." he took a sip of his own, remembering what had happened last time he'd been drinking all too well. "Things have bin'..." he considered this for a moment, "bit on the lousy side t'be honest, but they're changin', hopefully f'the better. An' if that don't work out, well least I won't've made anythin' worse."

Jack grinned. "Fair enough." His smile faded quickly, though. "You're being awfully vague there, Tug. Is everything alright?" he said, frowning.

Tugger shook his head, "It's fine. An' if it ain't, it will be. Just the usual y'know."

"Hmm. If you say so," Jack said, but he wasn't entirely convinced. Tugger didn't seem to want to discuss it, though, so he didn't question further, just stayed quiet and took another sip of his drink in stead.

"It's bin' a long day," Tugger offered by way of further explanation.

Jack nodded. "We all have those sometimes," he said, and left it at that. Tugger would open up if he wanted to, without Jack's prodding. "So, got any shenanigans planned for tonight, or are you just after a quiet drink?" he asked, in stead.

Tugger ran a paw through his headfur, "I'm thinkin' just a quiet drink. Can't afford much more than that." and he'd rather be home before his father tonight. he took another sip, "Anythin' new with you?"

Jack nodded, and emptied his glass, then signaled to the bartender for another round. He shrugged to Tugger's question. "Nah, not really. Like I said, the hunt for an apartment isn't goin' very well. But anyway. I'll find something eventually, I hope. Feelin' a little cramped at home."

Tugger nodded, "I know that feelin'. Might be less of us livin' at my place but it ain't no bed of roses. How many of your brothers still live at home?"

"Yeah," Jack said and scratched the back of his neck absentmindedly. "The only one who's left the nest is Taradan. 'S not too bad, really, but I'm beginning to feel the need for my own space. I'm older than Taradan was when he moved out."

Tugger nodded, "I jus' live with the one an' that's enough." he thought of Macavity, "an' you don't get no less hassle when they move out."
