Cohen carefully examined the x-rays, checking for any signs of damage. He tilted his glasses up onto his brow as he looked over one particular one. He set the others aside, moving over to her.

His lingering upon the one image made her nervous. While waiting for him to finish she reached into the pocket of her coat and retrieved her rosary. She didn't pray, but the feel of the beads between her fingers was comforting and she folded into her hand as he came over. "Well?" She stuttered over the word.

He glanced toward the rosary, but quickly brought his gaze up to her face. "The good news is that there's no serious damage. The bad news is that you have a hairline fracture on your femur--your leg bone. It will hurt badly for quite a while, and, honestly, it would be best if you were on it as little as possible for a while. By that I mean not at all."

She frowned, nervous. "How long?"

"I would prefer you stay off that leg for at least a few days, preferably a week. And after that? Crutches for another three, at the minimum. You may be able to get away with just crutches right off, but you need to give your body at least a day, perhaps two, before you trust weight to that leg."

She swallowed and nodded. "I- I think I can do that."
Mr. Seidensticker will understand, he'll be okay with me missing work, but how do I get home? she thought to herself.

"Is there someone you can call? Since I'm assuming Zimmerman's left already? I can have a nurse confirm that." Doc offered.

She seemed to have perked up a little bit, knowledge allowing resignation to take the edge off of her nervousness. "My mother should be at home." She stopped and wilted again. "No that won't work. I forgot for a moment that we had sold the car."
She sat in silence for a long moment thinking.

Cohen considered a moment. "It would be a couple hours yet, but I can give you a ride home if you would like." He was currently borrowing a car to see if he could actually stand to have one, but it would do regardless.

She nodded. "That would be kind of you. The wait is no problem. If I might call home and explain to my mother why I'll be late." The last lilts up into a question.

"Of course. We can stop by the desk. I have a room you can wait in, it will allow you to rest some, and prop your leg up as well."

"So, crutches then?" She made no attempt to stand yet, although she did put her rosary away and put her coat on.

He nodded. "Give me a moment to locate a set for you." He slipped out of the room to seek a pair of crutches. Returning a few minutes later he offered them to her.

She took the crutches and managed to stand without putting weight on the leg. She gave him a reassuring smile and began crossing to the door, taking care to exercise caution before speed.

The doctor held the door open for her, nodding down the hall to the desk.
