Bustopher Jones lounged in his chair, plate of food and glass of wine to one side and some paper work in front of him. He was trying to deal with that warehouse raid still and was far from pleased by it, or the still smarting cheek from where that brat had slapped him.
Ah well, he had warned Mistoffelees, so hopefully no further trouble would be forthcoming from his nephew.

Coricopat entered the Palace, he'd decided he didn't want to hear an order against this and so had gone out of his way to come here before going to the Demoniaque. He strode with confidence to the stairs, only stopping to let the cat standing guard at the foot of the stairs know that he 'had an appointment' with Jones.
He reached the office door and knocked sharply on it, considering how best to go about this. He rapidly determined this was not the best plan, but it would do for now.

Jones nearly choked on his food, and glanced up angrily at the door. "I told no one to disturb me!" he snapped.

The lawyer opened the door and peered around it, managing not to curl his lip in disgust at the cat behind the desk. "Oh, apparently I missed that memorandum."

Jones was about to fly off the handle when he recognized Corciopat. He settled himself back down, setting the food further to one side. "Ah," he said, "Mr. Zimmerman. How lovely to see you here. I was unaware the ADA needed to speak to me."

He stepped inside, closing the door and quietly locking it, speaking to cover the sound. "Actually I came here to discuss business. Not law."

For a long moment Jones tried to think of what the mottled tom could possibly mean. "Oh?" he asked. "And which business venture would this be?"

Coricopat offered him a thin, but cordial, smile. "It's come to my attention that there's been a conflict between certain employees of yours and those of a business I represent."

Jones raised a brow. "Oh? I'm sure I've come into no conflicts recently..."

"Really? Because I have it on good authority that a dealer of theirs was beaten last night. Young cat, black-furred."

Jones blinked, finally remembering seeing the mottled tom in that blasted hotel. "Ah, yes, do you refer to Mistoffelees then? I'm certain my employees have had no conflict with my nephew of late," he said, emphasizing the fact the black tom was his nephew, as if that meant he would never harm the lad.

Cori looked unimpressed by that show. "Mr. Hollister does not appreciate his employees deposited broken and bloody on his doorstep. I'm here to get to the bottom of the cause for that action. You would do well not to lie to me."

Jones hardly looked impressed by that. "And why, then pray tell would you come knocking around my door?"

"Because you seem a likely culprit for the deed. It's no secret you and your nephew had a falling out several months ago. But, honestly I'd like to hear you present me with an alternative theory, if you can come up with one I'll believe."

For a moment Jones did not reply, looking the mottled tom up and down. "Are you sure it was just not a random beating? After all, falling out or not, my nephew always has been a little... odd," he said, lingering on the pause suggestively and hoping to get a reaction one way or another. "I'm surprised he's managed unscathed so long as he has."
