(( ;D I was wondering when this was gonna come up. Giggle.))
Ox looked as though he'd missed a step going down a flight of stairs, clearly not expecting this question. "Beg pardon?"

"You can make milkshakes, right?" Mac demanded, in as serious a tone as he had asked all other questions.

"Well, of course... I'd need some special equipment, but yeah, I can make milkshakes." Ox was bewildered, but didn't think it the time to question.

"Good," Mac proclaimed. "I'm sure the equipment should be in there still. Don't think he tried takin' it with him or anythin'."

"Works for me." Ox scratched his left ear, a nervous habit.

Mac's eyes tracked the movement and he nodded. "Good. Because your job pretty much depended on that answer."

Ox froze for a second, wondering what exactly he had just gotten himself and possibly his family into. "Erm, does that mean I got the job?" Mentally slapping himself upside the head, Ox asked his mind just how he had gotten through life without being shot. Definitely not by his grand good looks...

Mac shrugged. "You're certainly lookin' like the likeliest contender."

Ox had the good grace to look bashfully pleased. "Thank you sir, or I guess it should be Boss now." Then a look of chagrin pasted itself onto the large cat's face. "There is one thing, Boss. Well, two things actually. Y'know how I mentioned my brother and my niece?"

Mac blinked. "Yeah?"

Ox took a deep, steadying breath. "Well, Boss, would it be all right for my brother and my niece to work here as well? My brother, Frederick, is the other half of my cooking prowess. The food will be even better if you have both the Howe Brothers working the stoves. My niece, Magdalene, is a fine chef in the making and she doesn't make trouble. Besides that one time, 'a course..."
Plowing forward through his plea, Ox didn't dare look up at his new employer. "I can vouch for both of them. My brother has only been cooking for one year less than me and we traveled all over as a pair. We both know each other's ways. Maggie keeps us in check for what little else there is. I can guarantee excellent fine dining for you and your clients from the Howes." Having finished speaking, Oxford deflated and awaited the mottled cat's verdict.

Mac considered the other cat, leaning back a bit farther in his chair. "Hm. And they won't cause any trouble?"

"No sir. Not for anyone. Besides me, of course." His tone for his last remark was that of the long-suffering older brother.

Which was something Macavity probably understood a good deal. His brow quirked up again. "Ah, yes. Alright, well, as lon' as they're no trouble, havin' a few extra kitchen paws around is hardly a bad thin'." He paused. "How much more for all three of you, salary wise?"

Ox could hardly believe his fortune, but he couldn't relax yet. His normal scowl was thoughtful. "Well, just twice and a half the normal wages for me should work. Maggie hasn't quite struck out on her own yet, so we could work out wages for her if and when she takes more work in the kitchen."
