Mistoffelees tugged on the tie--it was blue, oh everlasting cat he was wearing actual color for the first time in years, and hours after he put it on, seeing it out of the corner of his eye was still strange--as he glanced around the card room. He had half been expecting Coricopat to come in at some point, and tried not to let his ear flicker whenever the door opened and it wasn't the mottled tom.
The players of the last game cleared out, still talking politics of some kind of another. He'd tried to pay attention to what they were saying but wasn't managing it terribly well. Hell. What was wrong with him tonight?

The first thing that Clover noticed upon his entrance was that Mistoffelees was wearing color. How unusual, and yet, how interesting! He giggled in amusement before wandering over towards Mistoffelees' table, stopping here and there to listen in to a conversation or add his own comment before moving on, easily flitting in and out of discussion with a smile. When he did finally reach his destination, he slid into the usual chair he'd occupied during his past visits, folded his hands on the table, and smiled at the dealer.
"You're wearing color!" Clover practically beamed. "It looks nice on you."

Misto blinked and his ear flickered at the appearance of the other cat. Oh god, not again. He winced as the other sat down, but started trying to deal the cards anyway when his mind registered the other's comment.
"I, uh, yeah. Thanks?" he managed after a moment, self consciously tugging the tie again.

Clover registered the wince, and, as usual, completely discarded it. "You're welcome!" His head tilted to one side, eyeing Mistofelees curiously. "Why the sudden change in wardrobe?"

Misto could maybe tell somecat else how much he didn't want to have this conversation, but didn't think it would work. He glanced up as a couple other cats took a seat at the table, happy he could at least be dealing with cards at that point rather than just his mouth--or he had a bad feeling with nothing to do with his paws, he would end up twisting the tie and didn't much want to do that that.
"I, well, it was a gift. It's only polite to wear gifts," he told the tiny tom, handing him his cards.

Clover made a non-commental hum in response as he was handed his cards, eyeing the ones he was dealt with lazy disinterest.
"Oh, well, yes, one usually does that." his statement is airy, almost bored. "If they like the gift." Clover's eyes moved from his cards to Mistofelees, ear flicking curiously. "Do you like it?"

One of his ears flickered as he considered that. "I, yes, well enough." He was trying to put it mildly, not nearly willing to admit how much he did like it.

"Oh! Well that's good." Clover discarded two cards, waiting to recieve the next two. "It would be terrible to get a present you didn't like."

Misto glanced down and then back up to him, passing him the two cards, ears flickering. This was far too close to being a personal conversation for him to be comfortable with it. "Rather," he murmured. He didn't have much experience with presents one way or another.

Terrible hand, as usual. Clover never lost at other tables nearly as much as he did here, but then, the experience wasn't even half as interesting.
"Rather? So you have gotten a present you haven't liked?"

Misto paused for a long second, his tail swishing slightly before coming to wrap around his leg. Luckily he was standing behind the table. "I... yes." From his uncle generally.

"How lucky for you, then!" Clover beamed, putting three more cards back this time.

Misto blinked at that, one ear flickering back again. "I... guess?" he glanced around the room and back to the smaller cat in front of him. "I mean, sure." How was he supposed to respond to anything this one said?

"Quite lucky, in fact. For if you didn't know how terrible those presents were, how could you know how good this one is?"

Misto's ear flickered again and he frowned slightly but nodded. "I... that almost makes sense." One of his paws came up to touch the tie for a moment, before another player motioned for their cards and he jerked into motion to deal them out.
