Brachen sucked in a sob. How could things have fallen apart so quickly? He supposed that this was an unfortunate side effect of dealing in death but...all cats needed a way in the world. He went about gathering the rarest of his idols and old books. "Mac, I'm going to need you to burn the souvenir's I've kept after I leave...and you should go soon, it's dangerous to be associated with me right now." He didn't know if he'd be able to live with himself if they hurt Mac because of him.

Mac took a deep breath, fishing the object he was looking for out and setting it on the counter. "Yeah, yeah, I know." He paused. "Do they know where you live?" he asked, thinking. "And how should you... leave?" He was trying not to think too hard about what was actually happening.

"Not right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they figure it out soon. And I don't know. What do you think would be safe?" He didn't have a car, and the bus stations were probably being watched.

"Train would be the best idea," Mac said idly, without thinking the statement through, packing some clothes into a bag for the other.

"No." Brachen managed not to snap it out, even though he started shaking uncontrollably. "No. No trains. Ever."

"Why n--" Mac started to ask, finally looking up and stopping. "Oh, Brachen, I'm sorry, I," he wavered for a moment and took a step forward, drawing him into an embrace again, mind mentally ticking off how much longer they had before he needed to get Brachen out, but he didn't want to watch him go.

"It's okay. I'd like to forget, myself." He used the opportunity to hug Mac again. "A boat. I can take a boat up the coast. The docks are too busy this time of day for a hit." He froze. Something about having a plan made it seem all the more real.

Macavity nodded, still not moving back. "Yeah, yeah, boat would be the best plan. I..."

"The next boat doesn't leave until noon."

Mac paused for a long moment, letting out a long breath. "How much more do you need?" he asked. "And when do you need ta leave ta 'et there in time?"

"Probably eleven thirty," Brachen whispered into Mac's ear. He snickered madly. "The sky is falling and here I am talking about times and schedules."

"Hasn't fallen yet," Mac murmured, nuzzling against Brachen's neck. "Still have some time."

Brachen kissed the back of Mac's head. "We don't have enough. The time's just slipping away."

"Then stop talkin' about it," Mac said, voice low and pained, pulling back enough to pull Brachen's face up for a kiss.

Brachen kissed him back, suddenly afraid that this was the last time he would be able to stay himself.
If he could just last until he could return to Felidae..."This doesn't have to be forever."
