Taradan considered for a moment, before moving back to his original chair and lighting up again, he had nowhere else to be for a few hours and honestly, even if the kit didn't need him there, it would give Taradan some peace of mind.

Ricky glanced at his brother but picked up his earlier reading material again. He'd never admit it but he was glad his oldest brother stayed, he didn't really feel like being alone.

Taradan would have been glad to hear that, but wouldn't ever expect Ricky to admit to it. He found a recent paper on the side table and unfolded it, reading as he smoked, though glancing over the top at the kit every few pages.

Taradan stayed until their mother returned, stopping to have a quick conversation with her and to pass on some money. A couple of his other brothers were back as well by the time he finally left, but he felt better knowing he was leaving Ricky the company of cats who cared about him. He was still uneasy about the whole thing, though, knowing he would feel responsible if anything happened to Ricky, but at least, he reasoned, they'd made the best of a bad situation.
