She glanced up at him before turning back down to tally the price, knocking a few cents off a certain item. It was overpriced anyway.

He glanced toward the clock again, biting back a curse as he realized he'd missed the second bus. Well, third one was in just a few minutes, but still. That got him home later than he cared for--the probability was much higher that his father would be home.

She finished with the groceries, giving him the price and a slightly worried look. "You okay?"

"If you're sure," she said, putting the money in the till. "Just be careful tonight, alright? You look exhausted, try to avoid any more late night fights," she put a smile on the end of the sentence though. She paused. "You know, that invitation to lunch stands right? Whenever you want to, just stop by."

He offered her a smile at that. "I'll be careful. Take care." He picked up the grocery bags, "I may just take you up on that offer."

She continued to smile at him. "Oh good. I'd like to see you around more." And feed him, but he certainly would not react to that sentiment terribly well so she kept it to herself.

A final smile and he slipped out, heading to catch the bus. He was far later than he'd intended.

She watched him go, and sighed once he had left. It probably wasn't even his fault, but he always looked so tense, and was usually so worried. She hoped he would agree to a nigh out again soon.
