Name: Coricopat Zimmerman
Aliases: Cori, Cor (Both of these are reserved for the few cats who have known him all his life and he considers close)
Age: 34
Build: 5’10”, Cori is only barely within the realm of healthily thin. He’s extremely angular in his build and his tendency to forget to eat does nothing to help that.
Origin: Coricopat grew up in the suburbs of Felidae with his sister and parents--a wealthy upper-middle class household.
Occupation: Legitimately? He’s the Assistant DA. Less legitimately? He’s Macavity’s unofficial right-paw, functioning in the role of advisor and legal back-up for the Crime Lord.
Eyes: Dark, steely grey
Hair: Mottled brown and black hair slicked back and precisely trimmed so it lays perfectly flat.
Scars: Two tiny, almost invisible scars on the tips of each of his thumbs—a small point and a tiny line which underscores it from where he checks his claws’ sharpness. He has a bite mark (almost completely hidden by his fur) on his left collarbone—discussion of this scar is off-limits. He also has a GSW scar on his left leg (which has left a permanent limp) and four parallel scars running from his left shoulder to his right hip from an interrogation by a gang looking for information on Macavity.
Fur/Markings: Coricopat’s short fur is a mottled mix of black, brown, cream, and grey. His arms and legs have tabby stripes on them, but nowhere else.
Attire: He wears three-piece suits in dark greys and browns for everyday and court business. The most color in his wardrobe is found in his neckties which vary from sky blue to blood red to forest green, depending on the day, suit, and his mood. His eveningwear is the same style of suit but in black. He also owns a dark grey suit with light grey pinstripes, but he rarely wears it.
Accessories: Coricopat keeps extra accoutrements on his person to a minimum, though he carries a nail file with which he is constantly filing his claws to the sharpest point possible (always checking them against his thumbs which results in the scars there). Since the incident with the gang he’s taken to carrying a decorative walking stick. He doesn’t always carry it, and he doesn’t always need it, but he keeps it with him or in his car at least most of the time.
WOC: Up until the New Year Coricopat preferred not to carry a weapon except when on gang business. Now? He’s always got a Smith & Wesson M1917 revolver in an underarm holster that he can reach quickly should the need arise.
Appearance: Coricopat’s appearance is always precise. His clothing is always pressed and not a single fur is ever out of place. If it is something has seriously gone wrong (either in his perception or in reality). His thin, angular, build makes him appear an easy target and to some extent that’s accurate. However, his grey eyes almost constant silent threat is enough to counter this idea somewhat.
Personality: Coricopat has built walls around his emotions, coming off at first meeting (and second and third and fourth and…well until he lets them down) as lacking the normal compassion one expects to be exhibited to other living beings. He puts forth a façade of “if they don’t benefit me, I don’t give a damn about them.” The trouble is when he starts giving a damn. He seems to have two points on his scale of loyalty: avid protective loyalty or the thought that the other can go rot in hell for all he cares. It is possible to go from falling under that loyalty to rotting in hell, but climbing back the other direction is next to impossible without some massive work on your part. There appear to be one, perhaps two, exceptions to this and those are Macavity Hollister (Coricopat’s closest friend since High School and now his boss) and Mistoffelees Quaxo. Everyone else is there for his amusement, irritation, or utter loathing.
Cori, once he’s given his loyalty, is extremely protective of the cat to whom that loyalty is entrusted. He won’t pull out of it once he’s given it, but he will continue to put up walls as fast as that cat can tear them down. It takes circuitous routes to get past his defenses—that or completely catch him off guard—but once one does they find a cat who has been hurt, deeply, and is hesitant to let anycat near him because of it. He doesn’t care to deal with emotions and makes sure that the walls are in place so he doesn’t have to.
He can be a bit of a snob when it comes to the Henches in the Mob, making him less than a favorite among them. He rarely, if ever, does anything without an ulterior motive. Kindness exhibited on his part is suspect at best and dangerous at worst. Trust is not something he goes in for—at least not on his part, if another cat is stupid enough to trust him that’s not his problem. At least that’s what he tells himself. If only it would hold true.
In his own opinion he has only one vice: Jazz music. It can often be heard on the radio in his office (both at the DA's--though playing faintly--and at The Demoniaque). He doesn't view his other habits/moral discrepancies as vices. He likes the occasional card game, but he rarely loses so is growing less likely to be found at the tables—not to mention the fact that he can’t beat the dealer whose table he sits at when he plays in the Demoniaque’s card room. He likes his money and would rather not be paying it out to Macavity’s business. As to the rest of what most would consider vices? His moral compass has been broken for a very long while and he doesn't have any inclination to get it repaired.
Special skills: Uses other’s words and twists the meaning when he can. As Mistoffelees once so aptly put it: “It’s like talking to a damn maze.” Circumlocution is a major strength. Once he finally makes up his mind to do something it will get done, come hell or high water—it just takes him forever to make up his mind about some things. His cunning—he’s not especially strong so he’s developed a certain level of cunning to avoid the disadvantage of that.
Weaknesses: He’s dangerous but not especially strong. If he’s unarmed he’s pretty well defenseless, after all as sharp as his claws are they are only so effective. Mistoffelees is entirely a weakness for him that can be exploited.
Fears: Being at any sort of disadvantage—physical, mental, etc. Physical touch—He’s always preferred not to deal with it, but it grew exponentially worse when he was a young tom in his early 20s. Mistoffelees and their relationship has nearly rid him of this fear--at least toward the younger cat.
Likes: Thomas Hardy’s books, Hawthorne’sHouse of the Seven Gables, nice cars (especially his own Packard), tasteful suits. He’s also partial to Jazz music, though he considers this his vice.
Dislikes: Cigarette smoke (He absolutely hates it to the point of having no ashtrays in his office and snuffing out cigarettes of people he’s talking to), lost cases, people who renege on their bribes to him, and the color orange.
History: Raised in an upper-middle-class suburban home in Felidae with his twin sister, Tantomile, Coricopat had a decent childhood. He certainly wasn’t the most well-liked cat, but he had several good acquaintances. He was always careful of who he let get close to him, even then if it didn’t seem a beneficial relationship he wouldn’t deal with it. There were two exceptions to this un-written rule of his: Macavity Hollister and Cori’s sister Tantomile. His relationship with his sister devolved during their final years of High School though even now he’s still not completely sure why. Though he occasionally regrets the loss of his sister’s friendship he finds it easier to continue the downward spiral that their relationship has become.
He attended an in-state law school and while there fell into the closest thing he’s ever felt to love. It didn’t work out and he came out of it with the unequivocal belief that there is no such thing and trust is a dangerously fragile weakness. He now does everything in his power to see to it that other cats have no desire to get close to him—it’s safer for him if he’s a bastard to them.
Once finished with law school he returned home to Felidae and immediately found his own house, which he has finally started living in again, and started at the bottom of the ladder in the DA’s office. He’s been gradually working his way up through the levels of the DA’s for the last several years until the latest DA appointed him ADA.
Macavity Hollister being one of the only cats that Coricopat might still consider close to being a friend, the lawyer has followed the ginger tom through many things, finally entering his position as advisor/lawyer/intelligence branch in Mac’s mob.
Over the last couple of years, Coricopat met and fell in love with Mistoffelees Quaxo. They've had several low points, and are currently dealing with the repercussions of Mistoffelees being the socialite of the moment in the Felidae papers.
Love Interest: There was something during his college years, but he’s very defensive of the subject and won’t suffer it to be brought up. Coricopat is also completely in love with Mistoffelees.
