Grids nodded very slightly. She still thought he'd over done it. Gals in this area had trouble with toms, it came with the territory.

He watched her and could feel his stomach clench slightly. He rolled a shoulder. Like hell would he ever admit it was because every time he saw a cat do something like that all he could see was his damn father doing the same thing to his wife, or to 'Straps or Tugger. Something still kept from him going after his father but these other cats... "It's not even the fact I killed them, is it?" he asked after a moment. "It's the way."

Griddlebone hesitated, hating to admit he was right. She nodded very slightly, her gaze focusing on the hem of her skirt. "Cats' bodies get found down here all the time. That's not mentioning the ones who get killed down here. I just..." The white queen shook her head. "I've seen my share and I've never seen anything like that."
