Like many other big cities in the 1920s, the city of Felidae is seething with corruption and rum-runners. Getting into Felidae is no problem, but getting out of its underworld once it has you is all but impossible. The city is torn apart by gangs and the rivalries within them, and sprinkled with Speakeasies. Toward the end of 1925, the city has begun to feel the stirrings of a storm.
Macavity Hollister has spent his teen years onwards working his way up from the bottom of the underworld, and built a massive center of operations four years ago, his hotel, the Démoniaque. He is poised to practically take over the entire city’s underworld. While he is somewhat of a public figure due to his high class establishment, very few know that he is the Hidden Paw. His two younger brothers, Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger and Macavity have a somewhat strained relationship at the best and worst of times.
The majority of the police force is corrupt, many of them taking bribes. A new Police Commissioner has come in, and he is young with very little idea of what he’s truly about to face. A recent spate of murders has been taking place down at the docks, and no one is willing to point a paw at who has been doing it. There has been a recent, somewhat desperate recruitment drive for new officers.
Every cat in the city has to make a choice: stay on the legal side of things, or dive into the underworld. Follow the line drawn by the Hidden Paw, or attempt to cross it with the stake being your life. Accept the duty of a police officer, or take the job for the perks and bribes. Trust the cats around you, or betray them first.
