Macavity sat on the porch of the Hollister family suburban house, smoking on the stairs. Even though he knew his father was not home, he refused to enter the house since he moved out over two years ago.
Taking a long drag, he looked out into the gathering dusk, wondering where his middle brother was. Or the youngest for that matter.

Munkustrap kicked a rock ahead of him down the sidewalk. He checked his watch, good a few moments when he got home before his father arrived and maybe, if his luck stayed good, Tugger would be gone as well. A few minutes to himself to make a bit of food and disappear upstairs was all he really wanted.
The grey tabby paused when he saw a cat sitting on the front steps. Even in the dimming light his elder brother's red fur was discernable. Great. So much for a quiet evening. He approached. "Macavity."

Macavity blew a long string of smoke out. "There you are 'Straps."

"Here I am, Mac. What brings you here?" He stood on the walk, considering sitting down next to his brother, but finally deciding to remain standing.

"What? I can't come to check up on my brothers?" Mac said, looking up at the other and resenting that just a little. Not enough to become confrontational and stand, but the idea of looking up to anyone, especially his younger brother set his already long fur further on edge. "'Sides, thought you could use some cash if dear ol' dad is burning through it like usual." And it wasn't like he didn't have enough to spare.

"It just caught me by surprise is all. We haven't seen much of you lately." He set his briefcase down, letting it lean against his leg. "And you know as well as I do that we can always use cash."

Mac snorted, taking another long drag and pulling out a wad of cash, setting it on the deck beside him after showing it to Munkustrap. "Well there you go then. So, little brother, how've you been?"

The younger tom's gaze flickered to the money, that would definitely help, before returning to Macavity's face. "Passable. Works been going well enough, the cases are going well and I may be finally looking at a slight raise...hopefully." He paused. "And you?"

Shrugging one shoulder, Mac leaned forward on his knees. "Same old, same old. Been kept busy. Some start up rival gang making a fuss." On the plus side, taking care of them had been immensely satisfying.

Munkus' ears flickered back a bit at that. He finally moved over to settle on the step below Mac. "I see."

Mac shrugged, feeling satisfied with the fact that his brother had chosen the step below. "Work is work," he said. "You do what you do and I do what I do."

"Even if what we do isn't very nice." Munkus replied dryly. Cat, he couldn't beleive this. He'd gone to law school with the intention of doing some good in Felidae and here he was a defense attourney talking to his brother who was so embroiled in the underworld the silver tabby wasn't even sure what he did.

Mac shrugged. "I care more about getting results than worrying about morality," he said. "Probably don't agree with that do you, little brother? Being the big lawyer and all that."

Munkus tensed slightly at that but shrugged. "There's no such thing as a moral compass in this town."

Mac laughed at that. "Ah, so the little one is learning," he said. "You used to be more romantic about that."
