Name: Vala Tortoiseshell
Aliases: None
Age: 20
Build: 5’ 0” and athletically built. She’s all muscle, but it’s wiry. She doesn’t have much in the way of breasts.
Origin: Vala is new to Felidae, origin Chicago, and she was born in a small town in Illinois. Her former boss transferred her because she was troublesome; it was either work in Felidae, or leave the Force.
Occupation: Policewoman.
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Although she’s a little tomboyish in her nature and appearance, she says her one vanity is to keep her hair long. She ties it up above her collar and under her hat most of the time, though.
Scars: None
Fur/Markings: Her fur is black, white and orange in scattered markings. She's tri-colored and often compared to a coi fish, much to her aggravation. (There are lots of 'coy' 'coi' puns). She has short fur, but it's kept need and groomed.
Attire: images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/sep2009/2/4/police-women-pic-sm-image-1-939096533.jpg ß Something like that.
Accessories: Has a locket that was given to her by her father before she became an officer. Inside a picture of her mother holding her as a kit. Her mother died when she was very young, so the locket means a lot to her. She always wears it under her clothes, under her uniform. She also always keeps a handkerchief on her person for handling dirty things. In her pocket, she usually keeps a copy of her favorite book, This Side of Paradise.
WOC: Since she’s a queen, she was never given a service weapon. She does, however, keep a snub nosed revolver on her person. She acknowledges the necessity for a queen to defend herself.
Appearance: She’s comparatively plain. While her features are petit and could probably be kind of cute, she is always so severe in her expressions that it’s hard to tell.
Personality: She’s dedicated to her job and has a strong sense of justice. However, she acknowledges that in a time where criminals don’t play by the rules, and cops don’t play by the rules, some rules need to be bent. This was an advent to her personality after being forced out of her last job- she started out with much higher ideals and less cynicism than she has now. She's more willing to cheat when criminals cheat. She has quite a temper, and her iciness isn’t a front, it’s really how she protects herself.
Her anger is triggered by people getting in her way, whether they be dirty cops mucking up an investigation, or senior, male officers treating her like she's less than they are. Vala hates the fact that she always got landed with secretarial jobs or, at best, going around the rooms of a busted brothel and making sure everyone was clothed for booking (this was done as a joke by her CO at one point, he was, however, unaware of her germ fear). She has a dry sense of humor and has little tolerance for those suffering from stupidity. Most of the time, she's capable of stuffing down her pride, but it overflows at some points.
Special skills: Her father was a physician with their local police force, so he was very experienced diagnosing cause of murder. He passed on a lot of the thing he knew. It’s a talent she prefers to keep to herself, since she knows it’s her biggest Ace.
Weaknesses: She’s a little too defensive. Everything that’s personal to her is kept hidden; such as her locket- she keeps it under her clothes, her hair- she keeps it under her hat, and her gun- hidden on her person. While the last is necessity, it speaks to her overall tendencies. She also has unrealistic expectations of herself; if she feels something is worth her time, she throws herself into it completely. Had she been a tom, she would be an incredibly respected detective because of her attention to detail. However, she's also very hard on herself when she can't figure things out or she misses something, which hinders her ability to think beyond that point. As with everything else, her passion can be both a driving force and a hindrance. Physically, she's smaller, which means she knows that if she ever gets into a fight, it puts her at a severe disadvantage if she can't get to her gun. She understands that in a grapple, she's in a lot of trouble.
Fears: Sickness. In 1925, germs will be something relatively new and not entirely understood. Her mother died after falling ill, so Vala dislikes areas that look dirty. She's not OCD or paranoid about it to the point where she can't function, but it's always threatening to turn into that. She doesn't have much of a problem with the idea of dying in a fire, car crash, fight, the kinds of things that cops would normally die doing...but the idea of dying of a sickness terrifies her.
Likes: Tea, reading, and fencing.
Dislikes: People talking to her on her end of the line while she’s on the phone. High heels. Liquor. Marginalization. Sneezes.
History: Her father raised her after her mother died when she was just a kit. He was always very supportive of her goals, and died shortly after she became a cop. As the town doctor, he was very familiar with investigating cause of death, and it was he who spiked her interest in the justice system. He made a point to teach her a good deal of what he knew, and had secretly hoped she’d become a doctor. The things he told her also, however, led to her fear of microbes.
After entering the force, she immediately became aware of how vicious the marginalization was. Female officers were prohibited from getting promotions or from going on patrol. She constantly tried to involve herself with the cases, which earned her disagreeing looks from honest and dirty cops alike. She also made the mistake of trying to confront dirty cops about their dirtiness. Her superior, both to protect and because he hoped such a corrupted town would force her to leave the Force, transferred her to Felidae recently.
She did a lot of growing at her last job, working with the Chicago PD, and is up for the challenge offered by Felidae. She understands that the game has changed and is ready to go against society's rules to make society better- by adapting, she feels she's part of the evolution. More than anything else, Vala wants respect. How better to do that than helping bring law to a lawless town?
