Name: Lise de Chagny
Aliases: none
Age: 22
Build: She's rather petite for her age, and very delicately boned, but she isn't too tiny weight wise. She has just enough curves to capture attention but not enough to keep the attention on her (which is quite fine by her)
Origin: France
Occupation: While she was trained as a singer and appears to have some noble bearing to the way she carries herself, she's more content to hide in the shadows and act as a maid in the Démoniaque. The less attention she can pull to herself, the better she feels.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Her hair falls to her shoulders, though it's usually pulled up and tied in a proper bun. She rather not give the gentletoms something to grab, should they want her attention - she got that enough from having an elder brother while growing up.
Scars: none that she's willing to talk about - but then, not all scars are easily noticable. There's a certain glint in her eyes that indicates that her scars are more internal then external - and that she's not willing to let anycat (tom or queen) close enough to find out what they are, at least, not right away.
Fur/Markings: A soft bluish grey color (a little thicker then most since it is a double layer) (Information on the breed can be found here
Attire: Typically, you'll find her in the traditional garb of a maid (long black dress, white full body apron). As seen here: www.butlerschool.com/photos/maids_1_11.jpg She'll also stick to the darker colors, all the easier to blend in and not be noticed. Although, if she's somehow wrangled into attending a social function, she would make the attempt to wear color, but always making sure it didn't clash with her fur color. Any dress she would wear to the hypothetical social function, would probably be in the same style as her maid dress (a different material to be sure), only because she doesn't so much like the flashier dresses, as she thinks she wouldn't be able to bring any of them justice (after all, she's not as thin as the traditional flapper, that and she doesn't like drawing attention to herself and wearing a flapper length dress would bring just that. Besides, she left the days of wearing flashy dresses behind when she left the operatic world.)
Accessories: She wears a simple golden chain with a delicate cross, gifted to her by her favorite older brother. It's the only piece of jewelry she wears and she rarely takes it off.
WOC: She's not the kind to use a weapon, only because she just doesn't like to fight - it's not in her nature. She rather discuss things quietly with the other person then try to shoot and/or stab them. Ropes, on the other hand, do make her twitch just a little. Some sort of story or another that involved one of her older brothers and a rope, but she puts little stock in that old gossip, especially since she was a kit when it supposedly happened (she'd quickly change the subject and spend the next little while being more skittish then normal. After all, how many times had she heard her brother's name and his future bride's name in conjunction with some sort of opera ghost (who wasn't a ghost at all) that had a perchance for using a rope to strangle people? Far too many. At least, in the States, not many people have heard that story).
Appearance: You can almost always find her smiling but there are moments when a serious look overtakes her. She keeps herself neat and tidy, not that it matters since as a maid she's usually and easily overlooked.
Personality: She's quiet and unassuming, having largely been overshadowed by her elder siblings, but she's all right with that. She rather be known as the one that didn't cause any trouble then to be known as the one that did. She's also the kind that will play with a stray lock of hair if she's feeling nervous, running it through her paws, hoping it'd calm her
Special skills: She has a pretty singing voice (trained to sing opera in French and Italian, however German opera gave her headaches, English opera was very awkward to sing since her accent distorted the words, and Russian opera was not even a possibility. Russian made her eyes cross and gave her headaches that are worse then German could possibly give her.)
(Note: Opera began in France in 1645 as a result of an importation from Italy. Opera in Italy began in 1600. Opera in Germany began in 1627, but really didn't truly start until 1644. Opera in England didn't begin until we'll say, 1658. Opera in Russia appeared in the 1730s, but it was "born" in 1836. So given the time frame, she's bound to have seen at least one of the above languages)
Weaknesses: She's terribly timid, and easily spooked - she's slowly trying to outgrow her timid nature but these things take time. She will also cheerfully admit to going weak in the knees at the sight of a tom in uniform (although, she won't say what kind of uniform and just how weak-kneed she'd be).
Fears: Chandeliers (an odd thing to fear to be sure, and she'd be the first to admit it is silly but she recalls the stories from '96, when a counterweight fell from the grand chandelier at the Palais Garnier, triggering the chandelier to fall, killing the person sitting underneath it.) She also is downright terrified at having to sing in front of people - strangers are one thing, people she cares about is another (she doesn't want to embarrass them).
Likes: violins, chocolate, a chance to sing without being judge by anyone
Dislikes: ghosts (a childish fear - it stems from listening to far too many ghost stories as a child), German or Russian lyrics - she rather not suffer the headache she knows that would come, being abandoned by the ones who are supposed to love her
History: Lise was born towards the end of 1904 to a rather well to do family in France, the last in a family of five (unfortunately, her birth resulted in the death of her mother, something she blames herself for even if it wasn't truly her fault - it was more due to complications of the whole birth and the amount of stress her mother had been under). As the fifth kit, and the smallest, she was coddled a little more then she quite liked - her eldest brother being the chief one to spoil her, with her two elder sisters close behind (something about having a living, breathing doll to play dress up with was their chief excuse for spoiling her. It's one of the reasons she likes her outfits with the less frills the better.)
Her early years went by without a true incident - mainly because she was so quiet and easy to overlook in favor of her more boisterous elder siblings (well, as much as one can say that they passed without true incident when you count in the fact that she grew up during the midst of the Great War (which was entirely not glamorous, no matter what anyone said. Seeing bodies of dead soldiers staring wide-eyed in terror at the heavens kind of jades one to the "romantic" aspects of war. She doesn't understand what good a war is or how romantic a war is if all it leaves behind is destroyed towns, widows and orphaned children.) There are nights, when as a woman fully grown, she bolts awake, eyes wide and filled with terror as she recalls those nights where her brothers would stand guard at the windows, watching, waiting to see if the German army was approaching. They never came close to where they were, but she still shudders at the thought of the what if's. It is also one of the reasons she can not willingly be able to sing German opera.)
It was only when she turned sixteen that she expressed her own personal interests in music that got her noticed by her elder siblings. She had found herself intrigued by the opera world (a world where she could lose herself, and forget about those troubling memories of those four years), especially since her elder brothers would allow her to accompany them on their trips to the opera house (granted, the eldest one used those trips to visit with the ballerinas, while her second eldest made sure she never quite saw that aspect of life). With the eldest's premission, she was allowed to take singing lessons and at the age of eighteen, she found herself making her debut at the Palais Garnier, granted it was not in a lead soprano role, but it was still a step in the right direction for her career. She got her chance the following year, capturing the role of Lauretta in a production of Gianni Schicchi (one of the Il trittico, a series of one act operas).
However, on the eve of her twentieth birthday, for reasons known only to her, she decided to leave France and head for the States - it wasn't an easy decision, but it was one she felt was in her best interests. There was something in the air in France that troubled her, a growing sense of unease that she truly couldn't shake. She knew right away that she didn't want to draw attention to herself, so instead of heading to New York (as her family would have expected her to go in hopes of furthering her operatic career), she found herself heading for the city of Felidae. There, she felt she could start a new life, one that she could dictate the course of.
She may have turned her back on her operatic career in favor of working as a maid, but she knows that it's only a matter of time before the siren's call of the operatic world draws her back in, whether she's willing or not.
Love Interest: none at the moment, but she does hope to meet somecat someday
Quotes: "As you wish." (Note: And no, that's not code for "I love you". I'm not that horrible to my girl ;))
Theme Song: The Lullaby of the Bells (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnKAUxszwUQ - the entire music sans lyrics and www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjyiOeYSo0E - the lyrics ) (yes, I realize the piece is from the '40s, but the movie is set far earlier and I will confess it's from one of my favorite Phantom of the Opera productions ::sighs:: Claude Rains...); Un bel dì vedremo! (One fine day - I'll admit to this being one of my favorite opera arias.)(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc5J1CjfVP8, aria beings at 5:56, it's an old copy from 1924 so forgive the crackles, a better sounding version can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFQXdJxhmaY)
