Name: Magdalene Amelia Aubrey Howe
Aliases: Maggie, Mags, Chickie, various pet-names in French and German
Age: 19, almost 20
Build: Slender and fine-boned, still a bit gawky but it’s fading fast into the grace of adulthood. About 5’2”
Origin: Born in Morton, Georgia. Her mother was the daughter of rich German immigrants in Chicago, while her father was a rich southern gentleman.
Occupation: Cook’s assistant and go-fer for Oxford Howe, her uncle, in the Demoniaque’s kitchen and restaurant. She could go full-on head cook somewhere else, but for now she’d rather stay working with her uncles. She often works tables in the main restaurant, and takes food and drinks up to the pool-deck.
Eyes: Rich Chocolate Brown, large and soulful.
Hair: A rich nut-brown, extending just past her shoulders in thick waves. Obviously not in the popular style, but she finds it easier to keep it out of the way during work. She mostly keeps it up in a bun at the back of her head or a half-ponytail, though small strands like to escape when she is flustered.
Scars: If anyone were to look closely at her lower legs, they would see a few faint white lines where the nuns punished her during her time at the convent school.
Fur/Markings: Mostly a rich brown with a white underbelly. Her face is brown on the upper part while her cheeks, muzzle and bridge of the nose are white.
Attire: She wears a chef’s white smock during work with wide black slacks, and low black heels. During her off hours, she can be decently fashionable. She is by no means a fashion plate but she does love pretty things and anything timeless in fashion. She does also like to wear men’s slacks on certain days.
Accessories: She wears a small crucifix and a small medallion of a saint on a gold chain around her neck, accompanied by her mother’s engagement and wedding rings. On special occasions she wears a string of freshwater pearls that also once belonged to her mother.
WOC: Her sizable lung-capacity and her trusty wooden spatula.
Appearance: She always seems a bit on the flustered side, with certain things like her hair or her clothes in slight disarray, but that’s part of her charm. As a cook, she does keep herself decently clean. Her mouth always seems ready to smile, while her large brown eyes declare honesty bordering on blunt and curiosity that has gotten her in trouble before.
Personality: A friendly soul, Maggie always tries to spread the love. When she makes friends, she tends to make them for life. Usually a kind and confident girl, when somecat rubs her fur the wrong way - watch out. She is not afraid to use her exceptional lung capacity and her wooden spatula, though she can be a damsel in distress at times. A recovering klutz, she began growing into an easy grace when in Paris for secondary school and that has continued ever since. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t have klutz-attacks every so often. Decently intelligent, she has been known to join in on her Uncles’ verbal sparring matches from time to time.
Special skills: She has a gift for language, being fluent in German and French with some experience in Italian and Russian. She is also an excellent cook, kind of obvious considering her occupation.
Weaknesses: She has a bit of a temper, and is still rather naïve, though she is learning quickly that this is not a good way to be in the world. She cannot bear to stand idle while another cat is in peril, mortal or otherwise. She cannot clean her own room to save her life, yet she knows the ins and outs of a kitchen like the back of her hand.
Fears: Being found wanting, not being good enough, is a fear that haunts the darkest corner of her heart, right next to the fear of being abandoned or left alone in this world. It is a fear that even ten years with her uncles has not been able to quash. She has never told a single soul about this fear, not even Ox or Fred.
Likes: She adores parties and dancing, though she is by no means the heart of the party. She loves to sing, being blessed with a soft, sweet voice perfect for singing lullabies to kittens. An avid book-reader, she snatches time to read when she can. Fond of chocolate and tea, she can often be found at a local café with a book in one hand and a cup of hot chocolate or tea in the other.
Dislikes: She despises bullies, aggressors, cats who present a threat to her and hers. Also, people who give her pet-names without earning that right set her teeth on edge.
History: Born in Morton, Georgia, Magdalene Amelia Aubrey seemed destined to live a charmed life. The family fortune was secure, she was part of some of the best stock in the county, and seemed likely to inherit her parents’ good looks. Fate however decided that that life was not to be. Her father was abusive and abandoned her and her mother, Mariele, when Maggie was seven and her mother could not bear to go home to Chicago in shame. Mariele fled the manor for the nearby convent with her daughter, and they spent the next two years there in misery. Magdalene attended the attached catholic school, and couldn’t understand why the other girls laughed at her so much. She only tripped once or twice in the halls and it wasn’t her fault! None of the nuns believed her, thinking her a spoiled brat that needed discipline. Thus “Raggie Maggie” began to retreat into herself, speaking less and less and escaping into the books that were her only friends. Magdalene’s mother was confused by her growing silence, but assumed it to be grief at her abandonment by her father.
Then in the summer of the second year at the convent, Mariele caught a cold that just would not go away. Months passed and she was not getting better, so Mariele begged the Mother Abbess to contact her brothers. The Abbess grudgingly complied and sent a letter to Mariele’s relatives in Rhode Island, Oxford and Frederick Howe. It was nearly a month before any word reached them, and that word came in the form of Magdalene’s gigantic uncle, Oxford. He closeted himself with her mother almost immediately, as the end was near. Within a week her mother was dead and Magdalene was on a train heading for New England. She wasn’t sure what to make of this strange, fat tom who had taken charge of her. He called her Magdalene on the train, and in her first show of emotion since the funeral, she loudly told him she hated that name. She was known as Maggie from that point forward.
Life in Rhode Island with her crazy relatives was not without its snags and bad days, but her heart was slowly melted by the antics of Uncle Ox and Uncle Fred. A couple of months later, Ox and Fred packed everything up and took Maggie to Chicago. She didn’t really know why, but neither did she care very much because Chicago was where her grandparents were. Grandfather and Grandmother Howe welcomed her with open arms and raised her kindly. Ox and Fred weren’t always there, but she made sure they never quite managed to slip out of her life, not that they really wanted to. She picked up tomboy tendencies from her active Uncles and their love of cooking and working in a kitchen. She was never quite the social butterfly but she was happy in her life. By the time high school approached, her Grandparents and her Uncles decided it was time for her to see another part of the world. One long trip later, Maggie was in Paris with Ox and Fred at a little café where she was set to begin working the next day. Enrolled in a girl’s school in Paris, she blossomed, making many friends. She adored Paris and explored when she could.
When she graduated from the girl’s school, Ox and Fred said their next stop was New York and Maggie eagerly agreed. However, the trio soon found that New York was very different than they were expecting. Ox decided they needed a new place and heard Felidae was becoming a booming city. He went ahead and found a job at a high-end hotel, the Demoniaque, and Maggie and Fred followed him a week later. Maggie doesn’t know what to expect, but hopes this will be a good place for them.
Love Interest: None, at the moment. She hasn’t thought much about boys before, and not very many have caught her fancy. May and probably will change within the year.
Quotes: “Uncle!”
Theme Song: You Are Loved – Josh Groban, Stand in the Rain – Superchick, God Knows – Aya Hirano,
