Harquill sat at his desk shuffling through the paperwork on his desk with one hand while the other was bringing the cup of hot coffee to his lips. The case file opened on his desk appeared to be another murder and inwardly he had to let out a sigh. Momentarily he he even let himself wander off to ponder if the convicted cat was even the murderer at all and to wonder if it was a cat much closer...
That's a bad train of thought. Harquill had to snap at himself in his mind to fight back the tendrils of that particular thought. The court would decide if this man was guilty or not.

Coricopat glanced over the file in his paws, snapping it shut as he approached the door to the DA's office. He tapped lightly on the door, reminding himself not to be annoyed by the fact that other cats didn't have Macavity's hearing.

Harquill's head shot up for a moment, almost like he had been caught doing something he wasn't supposed to, before he settled back into his seat. "Come in," Was his simple reply to the knock on the door. The black tom let out another soft sigh and shook his head to clear it, taking a good dose of his coffee while he was at it.

The ADA stepped inside, offering the file, "I found that old case that came out in favor of the defendant. It's the same principle as this murder and it was the sort of thing that could have been won if certain steps were taken on the office's part."

Harquill's gaze was hard on the door for a long moment but when it was Coricopat who came into the office the DA's tail flickered with something like relief. At least he wouldn't have to be dealing with any idiots for the time being. "Let me see over it then," The Vanguard said and reached out to grab the file. He proceeded to open it onto his desk and fan through the material, careful not to mix any of the papers with the current murder file. "You seem certain of the outcomes of this case; should I give it to you?" The tall black tom phrased the deligation into the form of a question.

Coricopat shrugged one shoulder, "The end decision is up to you. And one can never be certain of a case until the jury returns. I am confident about the results, though. Since the weaknesses in the previous litigation is plainly evident, and I believe I can adapt to a change in defense as needed."

"Good," The DA shuffled the papers back together in a few sweeps of his paws, neatly tucking them back into the file. "Everything seems in order and the flaws are clearly visable as you have stated. There should be no substantial issues in the court for this case. If you can supply the evidence where this cat has failed, I see the jury swaying towards our favor." Harquill set the old case file to the side to put together the current case back into it's file in a similar manner. "Nothing's set in stone as of yet. You need to be on your toes; though, I should hardly have to remind you of that, Mr. Zimmerman." It was probably as close to a compliment that the DA could give.

Coricopat inclined his head, recognizing what little compliment that was, "Of course, sir. I'll see to it and we'll see the man behind bars, one should hope."

The black tom tapped the papers on the desk and closed them into the file. Without missing a beat he put the new case on top of the old and held them both out for the mottled tom to take. "Lord knows that we need less criminals out on the streets," Harquill stated.

The ADA took the files, offering his employer a faint smirk, "We do indeed." The fact that he of all cats said it was ironic, but Harquill hardly needed to know that he meant they needed less competition on the streets.

"Though another one will probably just appear out of thin air to take his place," Harquill mused a bit ruefully, but the tone was similar to his normal one and hard to tell. With the files out of his paws, the DA grabbed his coffee to once again take a draught before setting it back down. "Your last case went remarkably well; we will be in good shape if you keep the trend up."

The mottled tom nodded, "I certainly hope to be able to do so. I see no reason why I couldn't."

The DA quietly regarded the other cat for a brief moment. "How long have you been the ADA?"

"Since you hired me when you took office," Coricopat answered smoothly.

Harquill's tail flickered and he took another drink from his cup of coffee; he had thought as much. "Very well, if that is all?"
