Pouncival tapped the ends of two claws together nervously. Lou wanted him to play the piano? Now? He didn't know any thing good to play! He'd probably just mess up and then Lou would laugh... Oh but what about his two old favourites? The only two pieces he'd properly learnt back in Cardiff- Alexander's Ragtime Band and The Entertainer! They were reasonably popular now, still new songs, but they were already heard all over Wales. At least that's what he remembered. So he took a deep breath and sat at the piano, staring at the keys in silent prayer. He slowly and quietly began the first song, reaching a couple of bars in before hitting a wrong note, wincing, and then turning to Lou with an apologetic look and holding his paws out. 'I'm not very good at this sir- I haven't played in a while and the piano sounds different to my old one...' he told his boss. Oh but he would so love to be able to play all the jazzy stuff that the last piano player had demonstrated.

Lou had flinched very slightly at the wrong note, but nodded encouragingly, "I would say that's pretty decent playing if I heard more bars of it. How are you at accompaniment, or improvisation?"

Pouncival brightened up immediately. 'You really think so?' He beamed. 'Oh, err, well I don't know. I suppose if you showed me the notes to play I could remember them. And im-impovir-impovrished? No- um, imporvidisation? Well I don't really know what it is. Oh- is it that jazzy stuff where you close your eyes and hit the nice notes like this?' he asked, closing his eyes and playing a few notes along with the bassline for the entertainer. He opened his eyes again and looked at Lou, head cocked to the side.

Lou smiled a bit at that, "Well, it's more being able to adapt your music for solos that stay with the rhythm and chords of the song. The Entertainer's a harder one to improvise with because everyone knows it, but yes something along those lines."

Pounce nodded seriously. This was prime advice! 'Well in that case I'm not very good. Could you teach me?' He asked eagerly, bouncing up and down on the piano stool.

Lou considered that, he wasn't all that good at the piano, but improv he could do. The brown tabby finally nodded, "Yeah I think I could probably do that."

((I thought that maybe he shouldn't be some piano-playing prodigy :P bit unrealistic...)) Pouncival smiled. He grinned. He beamed. He clapped his paws together and jumped up, shaking Lou's paw vigorously. 'Oh thank you thank you! Oh sir this is going to be so much fun!' He laughed joyously, not even trying to contain his glee. Felidae was the best place ever!

Lou offered him a faint smile, "We'll start lessons tomorrow before we open. Alright, lad?" He'd see about first training the youth before considering him for the band.

'Alright then!' Pounce nodded seriously. 'I'm going to go and change now- it's almost opening hour!' He jumped off the stage and raced towards the room where his uniform was, whistling as he went. he could wait until tomorrow...

Lou watched him go, shaking his head. It would take training, but the kit might have some potential as a pianist. The trick would be finding a way to teach improvisation. It was one of those things you either did or didn't do.
