For such an upscale party, Cassandra was surprised by the lack of apparent scandal material. The upperclass of Felidae must have gotten careful under Jones' watch. She didn't blame them. Even if you didn't have anything to be blackmailed over, she couldn't see that ever having stopped Jones. She took a sip from her drink. Sweet, and luxurious, but noticeably alcoholless. The night wouldn't be a total waste, at least. She'd noticed a few aging suffragettes earlier and couldn't resist the fun of twisting their little arguments about equality and sisterhood until they weren't sure about just what sort of family values they were preaching. Not the kindest of sport, but certainly amusing.

Genghis wove his way through the crowd, he'd have to ask Clara about that torbie tom later. He wasn't certain he recalled the other tom, and certainly wasn't sure he was pleased with that fact. His blue gaze flickered around the other cats present, pausing when he spotted a familiar queen. It had been years, but that didn't change the fact of who was standing a short distance away. The Siamese paused for a moment before moving over, "Miss Amonasro, imagine seeing you here."

The voice had changed, aged, but the way he said her name hadn't. She turned slowly, taking in the sight of him. Her eyes met his and whatever cleverness she might have felt in this situation died. "Mr. Selkirk." She said, her voice sadly polite. "I imagine this must be a surprise."

There was something cold around the edges of his gaze, but his smile remained polite, "Whatever would give you that idea. It's a pleasure to see you again, Miss."

I won't run. I've never run. Not from him. Her eyes hardened and she turned her eyes away towards the crowd. "How have you been?"

"I've been well, business has been good. And yourself?" He turned slightly to survey the other cats present, rather than give his whole attention to the Abyssinian queen.

She knew this was public. She knew she couldn't afford to breach this barrier of manners, but that didn't stop the urge to throw herself on him and try to explain. "New York treated me well."

"I'm glad to hear it." It took him a moment to find a way to word his next sentence for public hearing, "What made you decide to return to Felidae?"

"I felt like it." She said. It was a lame excuse, and she knew it. "I've been in town for a few months, actually."

Genghis' jaw tensed at that, though it was the only indication he gave as to his thoughts on that, "Really? Well, you certainly keep a low profile then. I hadn't heard of your return."

"I haven't been parading myself around our old haunts, if that's what you mean." She decided to abandon her drink before she shattered the glass in her paw. "This town has changed."

"I certainly don't blame you for that, since a couple of them have been shut down in the last years," he responded evenly. "And the town hasn't changed all that much."

"It's changed enough." She considered just walking away. This conversation was pointless and he wasn't letting go of her silence. The setting was too public to have a shouting match over it, but for some reason she'd let this conversation happen, instead of shutting it down early and moving on. Moving on. He's probably done that by now, so why drag her failure all over their conversation like this?

Genghis nodded slightly, "I suppose when one's present they don't notice the changes as much." He knew better, he should just walk away right then. It wasn't as though she would offer him an explanation in such a public setting, but damn it he couldn't seem to pull himself away.

She took a deep, shuddering breath. "No, I suppose not." She looked to him, feeling helpless to change his mind. "I've a residence in town now." She drew a card from the holder in her clutch purse, and offered it. "If you have time. I imagine your business has grown with the rest of the economy around here." Some part of her heart begged her to ask forgiveness here and now, but she kept that close to the vest and out of her eyes.
