After leaving the host, Clara made a quick sweep by the buffet style table before returning to Genghis' side. "What do you think of our host?" she asked quietly, eyes scanning the room.

"I think he's either going to be very useful, or a very real thorn in my side. He's naive, but it suits him, and can hopefully be implemented."

Clara bit back a smile at that. "He is apparently opening a soup kitchen down toward the docks. Or so the rumor mill was going at the buffet table."

Genghis' brows rose, "Really? Quite charitable of him, but I would call it worrisome too..."

Clara nodded. "Him being at the docks or him being sincere in caring about other cats?"

"Both. If he manages to incite enough loyalty at all class levels he'll be difficult to deal with on both the legal and less than legal sides of this city. Here's hoping I can find an ally in him and not an enemy," Genghis murmured, his blue gaze sweeping over the room.

"Has there been any indication so far of whether or not he intends to follow his uncle's pawsteps? Or if he's chosen any alliances yet?" she asked. Her spine stiffened when she thought she noticed a flash of torbie fur in the crowd, trying to ignore it.

He shook his head, "From what I've heard he plans to keep the Palace legitimate, but I don't know anything further than that. He's hard to get a read on and even harder to find information on."
Jerrie paused near the refreshment table, he thought he could see a queen that looked an awful lot like Clara not far away. He hesitated for a moment before starting to weave through the cats in that direction.

Clara nodded. "He is not used to being a public figure, and the public is not used to him. He appears rather set on remaining as private as possible."

"Precisely, and that concerns me. If we can't find information about him we can't know what move he might make."
Jerrie approached from behind them, speaking just loudly enough to be heard, "Clara?"

About to reply to her employer, Clara's spine tensed instead and she turned. "O-oh, Mr. Wheeler. It is a surprise to see you this evening." Perhaps it should not have been, considering he had told her he was a friend of Quaxo but that didn't stop the shock thrumming through her.

Genghis turned as well, his brow arching sharply at the sight of the torbie tom standing before them. His gaze flitted over the other cat, considering him and filing away his judgments to consider later.
Jerrie's eyes flicked from Clara to Genghis and back, "Sorry, didn' mean t' interrupt."

She darted a glance at Genghis back to Jerrie. "I would... not be concerned. Genghis Selkirk, this is Mungojerrie Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler, this is Mr. Selkirk." She introduced them stiffly.

Genghis offered a cordial smile to Jerrie, extending his paw, "A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wheeler."
The torbie shook the paw, managing a smile in reply, though there was a decided falsity to it's edges, "An' you, Mr. Selkirk."

Clara looked between them a moment before clearing her throat a little nervously. "How are you enjoying the evening, Mr. Wheeler?"
