The Siamese shrugged slightly, "It is good to see that those tendencies aren't a family trait. You have a head on your shoulders, and the ability to make gestures just grand enough to draw cats to yourself. Well done."

Mistoffelees' brows rose in surprise and he blinked a couple time. "W-why, thank you."

"You've the funds, and the mind, if you put it to good use, to be able to go far. But let me give you a bit of advice regarding Felidae, which I am sure you're already aware of. Make certain you have allies, business and in the legal system, and make certain you have several. If a cat dislikes you they'll be actually rather obvious about it in this town, and both of those sets of allies will help."

Tilting his head back, Mistoffelees considered him a long moment before quirking his brow up. "Are you offering?" he asked.

The older cat shrugged, "If you have need of allies. I certainly would be willing, but there are others who would be willing to I'm sure. So I suggest weighing the offers you get for things."

"A wise suggestion, I'm sure," Mistoffelees replied quietly, forcing himself not to look around for where Coricopat had gotten himself off to.

"I do believe we've taken up enough of your time. It was a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Quaxo," Genghis offered him a half bow.

Blinking his eyes wide in some astonishment, Mistoffelees inclined his head. "Good evening. I hope you enjoy it, and it was a pleasure to be formally introduced. Miss Rosenthorn," he added a nod to her as well which she returned with a curtsy.

Genghis offered Jones' heir a slight smile before slipping away toward the refreshments to consider the conversation and the younger cat.

Clara trailed after him, glancing once more back to the youth.
((Exit Clara))
Mistoffelees sighed, tugging on his tie and turning to dealing with the next series of greetings.

Cassandra eyed the cats around the main ballroom. Mostly tasteful, conservative types but a few flamboyant eccentrics. Her off-white sequined gown didn't stand out much among the other fashionable ladies, and that was how she liked it. She noted the presence of a stage, and decided it would be a good idea to refresh her familiarity with the layout of the palace ... later. Right now, there was a little black Tom she needed to greet before she could mingle properly. It wouldn't do to be impolite. She slipped across the room, and approached him from the side. "Good evening, Mr. Mistofelees." she said, the rumbling alto of her voice nearly a purr.

The shorter tom turned at that, inclining his head. "Good evening," he replied, having said that far too many times already that night. "Oh," he added, placing her. "I am sorry to say I have not found your bracelet yet, but there are still many of my uncle's effects I have to go through."

"I'm pleased to be remembered so accurately, but please, do not be so concerned. It is merely a bauble," she laughed lightly "I'm sure it will turn up." She gave the young man a measuring glance. "And how has the businessman's business for you?"

"It's refurbished," he replied, smiling thinly. It could be passed off as a joke, but among those that knew of Jones' underworld tendencies he hoped it was a clear sign that he was not offering more of the same.

Cassandra gave him the sort of patronizing smirk a mother might give a child who thinks he's successfully hidden that frog in the closet. "And such a lovely color scheme you've found. Though I'm glad to see you've kept some of the original woodwork, such careful carving reflects a wonderful artisanship sadly lacking in more modern architectures."
