She gave a merry laugh at that. "At least, here, I do not have to worry about falling chandliers," she said, her eyes twinkling just a little. She hadn't quite seen any chandliers yet but given the style of the place, there had to be one. And of course, that had her more then a little leery.

((There's a chandelier in the foyer and several in the second floor ballroom...))
"You only think you don't," he replied with a faint smirk. "But they could surprise you."

((Oh, that should be fun when she sees them XD I can only imagine how pale she goes))
She paled slightly when she heard that. Wonderful, a new reason to worry over this job. 'Remember there are worse things then a shattered chandlier,' she thought absently, in a pitiful attempt to compose herself. "I pray they do /not/ fall," she said quietly. "I do recall hearing the story of the incident at the Palais in 1896 where one fell and killed the person sitting under it."
Hopefully... there wasn't a ghost here that could trigger one to fall... She glanced up after a moment, spotting a chandlier near where they stood. She swallowed thickly, trying to keep her composure, knowing she was failing miserably. It really was a beautiful chandlier...
((I will confess to not having her been in the ballroom yet so I was unaware of the chandlier there.))

((I assumed she went through it on work. If she's been a maid there any time she's probably been in the room...))
"Well, so lon' as you're not the cat under it..." Macavity shrugged. "But I promise ours are new and fulfill all safety regulations."

((She probably has - but I haven't physically written her as being in those rooms yet. I like having a good reason for her to be entering rooms instead of just throwing her into a room and going "poof, there I am." I do know she'll go to the ballroom post the next part to clean it up))
"That is," she paused, clearly a little shaken by the sight and trying to compose herself. Composure, /composure/. "Most reassuring," she said finally. "I.. am not normally this skittish," she confessed. "It has just been.. a long day."

He shrugged. "Those happen. Just try ta breath, yeah?"

She gave a quick nod before visably trying to compose herself. After a space of a heartbeat or three, she visably relaxed. "Forgive me," she murmured. "My elder brother, Raoul, put the fear into me," she confessed. "I know it is a silly fear but," she gave a half-hearted shrug.

"Well, everycat has somethin' they're afraid of," he said with a shrug, recently having been brought face to face with his own fears. "Just don't stand underneath them is all."

She gave a firm nod at that. "I will try to avoid that. Standing under them, that is," she said quietly, her right paw reaching for the cuff of her left sleeve and worrying it slightly. On the bright side, he had not made the connection between her last name, her brother's first name, and her fear of chandliers so thank heaven for little favors.

"It might be a good plan anyway," he remarked. "In case there was ever an earthquake or such."

She gave a firm nod, taking a few more steadying breaths. She definitely was going to take the next day off - if she was scheduled for a day off, that was. Well, as soon as he would dismiss her, she'd go about getting a new apron - as this one was shot to Hades and beyond. "Does this area get earthquakes often?"((not often, but the East Coast does get them. There was a bad one in 1885 - 5.5. The Geological Survey said if that one happened today, it'd be worse - www.nj.gov/dep/njgs/enviroed/eqrisk.htm))

"Not often," he replied with a shrug. "We're not nearly so bad as some places. It never hurts ta be careful though. Especially if you're runnin' any sort of operation--sloppy mistakes are what brings cats down."

She gave a slight nod at that. He had raised a good point. Well, she mentally sighed, she'd have to forgo shopping today to pick up that new apron - perhaps she had a clean one back at her place.
She paused a moment, running something over in her head - trying to recall when rent was due and how much she needed for that. "Will you be needing my services further tonight or am I free until my next shift tomorrow morning?" she asked quietly. "If you will be needing me, I beg just a few minutes to run home and get a fresh apron as this one was ruined earlier."

He blinked and shrugged. "Sure, scurry off. I'll not need you again tonight if you're supposed ta be off."

"Thank you, sir," she said, curtsying again. "Have a good day," she murmured again, before slipping off to get home so she could prepare for tomorrow. So many things to do and so little time to do them in.
