Alonzo considered a moment and shrugged. "Well, grew up in the Irish section of Boston. Now? Living in just about the same type of place, just a different city. Not too far from here really."

Ricky nodded a bit, "I see. You like Boston or 'ere better?"

"Well," he started, one of his ears flickering before settling back to where they usually were. "That's a hard one to call. I knew more cats in Boston, had my brothers there and grew up there with my mom. I find better work here. It's hard to compare the two, you know?"

The kit shrugged, "Not really, but I guess I c'n imagine."

"Well," Alonzo considered. "It's unfair. I have so many happy memories of Boston, and so many bad ones. Here it's this big blank slate."

"Guess that's true. But you'll make new mem'ries here."

"Eventually," Alonzo replied. But they would never be the same kind. "Do you like it here then?"

"Ain't never been anywhere else, so...it's good I guess. Hard to say really without anythin' to compare it to."

"Well, it seems like a nice enough place," Alonzo replied a little lamely.

"It can be, yeah. Course there's always places y' don't want to stick your nose in or it'll get shot off, but I figure that's just how it is in a city, right?" He liked this cat, he didn't seem to be treating him like as much of a kit as some cats, which was nice.

Alonzo had raised five younger brothers, and knew well how to talk to them without them getting angry or not talking to him for a week. Long ago he figured out the secret to making younger boys like him. "Well, true, there's always some place you don't want to poke around in," he agreed. "Even though they're usually the lucrative places."

Ricky nodded, "Yeah, but they're usually the places with the most crossfire too. You don't wanna be out around here much after sundown, and the downtown area can get pretty rough too."

Alonzo's brows rose but he nodded. "You seem to know a lot about that. Or is it just survival instincts around here?"

He got a shrug in response, "A bit a both. I ran for an uptown boss, but he got himself offed, so now I'm outta work." Or not, but he wasn't about to tip that hand.

Alonzo blinked once at that. "Well. That's quite the ... well. I mean, so long as you know what you're doing." He was trying to crush down any over protective instincts. They wouldn't help any here and he knew it.
