"Phantom of the Opera," she said finally, wanting very much to bury her face in her paws after that admission. How embarrassing to have a chapter of your family's history to be aired in such a manner. "Although, how Raoul became a vicomte is a mystery /I/ have yet to figure out." She gave a small wan smile and nodded her agreement. "As it is an honour to meet you, Mssr," she murmured.((I had a feeling someone would have read the book, most likely it would have been him. And XD I can just see someone dressing as the Phantom if Mac has a Halloween party - "quick, how fast can we see the maid faint" XD And we're going to pretend that the events of the sequel musical have not happened. Or ever happen. What a train wreck that musical is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Never_Dies_(musical) Everything you liked in the first musical gets horrible maimed in the second.))

((I like a few of the songs for that one, but plot wise I sorta want to bang my head into the wall)).
He couldn't help but smile faintly. "Oh dear," he murmured, unsure what to make of all that. "Well, it's quite lovely to meet you as well."

((And her grief over that hasn't ended yet XD 1925 is when the version with Lon Chaney came out. At least we haven't seen a theatre in Felidae yet so she escapes relatively unscathed in that regard))
She smiled slightly. "Well, at least most people do not seem to have read that novel so I do not worry too much." She trembled for a moment as she fought to compose herself. "Dieu.. I do apologize." She brushed a stray lock of her face. "I should have the book for you the next time you come to visit Mssr Hollister," she said, returning to the earlier topic, or at the very least, attempting.

((Actually, there are at least three cinemas in Felidae, and I can guarantee Sonya's seen the Phantom of the Opera film.))
He arched a brow but smiled and nodded. "Certainly, that would be nice. It's probably a good idea to be a little more cultured after all."

She nodded, glad he was not pressing for details when in truth, she had yet to read that book, out of her promise to Raoul. Of course, the whole book made the eldest of the five twitch with agitation - so it was always a smart idea never to bring that up in front of him. "My notes and minor translations are on the pages so that should help as well. I believe one of the tenors I sang with left notes on the pages as well since he would borrow my book just to refresh his memory."
She laughed. "And it was clear he needed it one night when the conductor had to play the lead in to one of the tenor arias six times because he forgot the opening stanza."
((Oh, that could be fun XD I can just see her face when Sonya mentions there's a film XD))

Mistoffelees blinked in some surprise. "Six times? That's quite a long time to forget there..."

"I know, we all were stunned," she said. "Of course, we later would come to find out that he had just learned his father had passed on moments before he had to sing. Naturally, one could not function properly when one learns of that. From what we knew, the two had been close." She rubbed the back of her neck absently as she recalled that troubling night.
"And I will confess to stumbling a few times in one or two arias, but, well.." her voice trailed off as she blushed. "German is a tough language for me."
((True story - that actually did happen for a tenor.))

Swallowing, something passed across Mistoffelees face at the mention of a dead father, thinking not only of his own father, but also of his recently dead uncle. "Everycat stumbles from time to time," he murmured, one ear flickering back.

She winced at his expression. "My deepest apologies. I did not mean to bring up a painful subject. It was not my intent," she said softly, lowering her gaze. "I clearly must learn to think before I speak so I do not unwittingly offend someone like I did just now."

"I'm not offended, it's just a hard subject is all," he said with a shrug, though he didn't quite meet her eyes. "Don't fret about it."

"Still, it was poor choice of words on my part," she said, still not looking at him either. /Dieu.../ Why could she never learn to think before speaking? She was silent for a long moment, trying to not slip back into her native French. It was so much easier and she didn't have to struggle to keep her speech proper. She was a wee bit jealous at how pretty the language sounded coming from him - wishing she was as skilled. Native speakers had it easier.
She played with her apron for a moment before finally looking up. "Is.. there a day you usually come to visit Mssr Hollister?" she began, figuring a return to an earlier conversation would be best at this point. "That way.. I know when to have the book with me."

He considered the subject change and let it go. "Well, I believe I will need to stop by tomorrow as well," he said finally. "If not one of the next couple days."

"Then, I shall have the book for you tomorrow," she said, attempting a small smile. Hopefully her little social faux pas would not make its way quickly to Mssr Hollister, she was not sure he would be too appreciative if she upset any of his friends and or guests.
She would just have to make sure she wore her apron that had a pocket in it. And, were her notes in English? She had to pause in thoughts for a moment - yes, she recalled finally, they were.

"It's quite alright," he replied. "Just, whenever you get a chance would be more than fine."

"Well.. it would give me an excuse to practice," she murmured. "I still like to learn even if I do not show my talent anymore." She blushed a little. "Unless you count getting caught singing."
