The Napoleon of Crime did not look particularly impressed. "Took you long enough," he snapped stepping inside.

"Well pardon me for not moving swiftly when I'm injured and running on low levels of sleep as well," Coricopat responded, motioning to the chairs.

Macavity still didn't look impressed and he didn't sit. "What the hell?" he said without much of a preamble. "What the hell were you thinking?"
It was easier, to slip into their normal roles than consider what had happened so shortly before. He spared a glance at Mistoffelees, who sat silently.

"When?" Cori spoke before he thought about it, preferring that to remembering that the last time he'd talked to Mac had been to tell him that Brachen was to be hung.

"Last night, or whenever it was you decided to storm into Jones' place and start a firing match. Really subtle that," Mac replied, breezing past their last meeting entirely.

"It was hardly a firing match. And besides, once it calms down we have access to his businesses," Coricopat replied. The words were a protest, but the tone was even.

That got a long blink out of Macavity and he looked from Mistoffelees to Cor. "We will? How?"

Cori glanced at Mistoffelees before returning his gaze to Mac, "As far as I can tell he's only got one living relative. Mistoffelees and I will be going down to the station to see what can be done in the legal matters of that." His paw rested on the back of a chair for some minor support, but he remained standing.

Mac considered that for a moment, and glanced between the pair. "And yet I still remained confused of what the hell possessed you to do it."

"He was in the way. Yes, it's not my usual methods but he was all but untouchable in those routes." Cori replied evenly, "He was beginning to become worrisome."

Macavity gave Cor a long look. "Beginnin' ta become worrisome?" he asked. "You sure that was it, or was somethin' else goin' on in that mind of yours?" he asked with a significant look at Mistoffelees.
Misto frowned at him slightly and leaned back further into his particular, uncomfortable kitchen chair.

Cori's ears flickered at that, "Yes. Beginning to become worrisome. He was getting close to figuring out the who behind the Hidden Paw."

"He was," Misto said softly. "If he hadn't already. That's why he said he got me where he was. He wanted to..." he realized how bad 'use me to blackmail Coricopat' sounded and changed routes. "He wanted me to spy on the Demoniaque, and failing that see if he could use me as a bargaining chip."
Macavity considered the pair for a moment, processing that information before moving briskly on. "We'll have to see something about making sure you two aren't shot on the street," he said. "And you mentioned something about Jones' business assets. Report to me on that," he glanced at Cori's suit. "When you look less like shit."

The lawyer grimaced, "Of course. Is there anything else I can do for you, Macavity?"

"Nope," the red tabby replied. He gave Mistoffelees another look before heading for the door, almost slamming it on the way out.
((Exit Macavity))
