Philip leaned back hard, blinking at the scene before him. "Mr. H-Howe. What's going on?"

Ox swallowed hard and glanced back at the scene behind him. "We're... not sure. Someone hurt Maggie - her tail... We need to get her to the hospital."

Face going slack for a moment, Philip nodded. "Right, yeah. I have a car..."

Ox didn't answer for a moment, obviously thinking hard. Finally he nodded. "You have no idea how much we would appreciate that."
Fred, having heard this conversation, nodded once. "Thank you, Mr. Hunt."

"Of course," he replied. "I parked it up the block, a minute..." he said and took off down the street.

Ox watched Phillip run down the street. "...He's a decent cat."
Fred scoffed. "About time you acknowledged that, fat-head." Dropping his scathing tone, he spoke gently to Maggie. "Maggie, cherie, we need you to be strong, all right? We need to get you to the hospital. Mr. Hunt is coming back with a car, love. Cherie, will you please answer me?"
Maggie's vision was hazy with the pain and she was nearly spent. Covered in cold sweat, every movement was agony and she was almost past caring. Why couldn't she just faint and be done with it? She could sleep and forget everything, all of it. The rough hands touching and restraining her, the car smelling of sweat and blood, the sharp snap of bone and the flash of white-hot pain... Through the fog in her head, she heard Fred's latest query. "H-hurts..."

Moment's later a car came tearing around the corner, and Philip left it running as he came back up the steps. "Come on, we have to get her moved and..." he glanced up at Ox and back at her car and balked slightly.

Ox blinked, noting the hesitation. "I'll...catch a bus. Just get her to the hospital. Can you manage, Fred?"
His dark brother nodded anxiously. "Let's get her in the car." He gently began to rise to his feet, Maggie drooping in his arms.
She felt her uncle move, but was not prepared for the jolt of pain that ran through her entire body. A half-stifled scream left her lips and a couple more tears ran down her pale face.
Fred froze for a moment, gulped, and began to walk towards the car. "M-Mr. Hunt, could you open the door?"

Philip was already there, getting the door open. Quickly, he glanced back at Ox. "I'm sorry, I really am, it's just a small car, and... see you at the hospital?" he said a bit quickly before getting back into the driver's seat.

Ox waved a hand in what he hoped was a reassuring gesture. "You can't help the size of the car. Just get there safely. Fred, I'll be there as soon as I can."
Fred glanced up. "Don't forget to lock the front door. Oh, fish-sticks, I left the kettle on!"
Ox interrupted his brother. "I'll deal with it, just go." He nodded to Phillip. "I'll see you at the hospital."

Philip nodded, and made sure Fred was seated before putting the car into gear and tearing off down the street, though he made sure to drive as carefully as he could.
After what felt like a long time, he pulled up in front of the hospital.

Fred had been crooning to Maggie the whole way to the hospital, and so almost didn't notice that they had arrived. He blinked owlishly. "If you could get the door, Mr. Hunt... She's nearly unconscious."

Philip almost snarled at the other cat. It was pretty condescending to constantly be telling him to get the doors when he was trying to get the keys out of the ignition and get his own door open. As if the other thought him too self centered to want to help when really he was moving as fast as he could to be as helpful as he could. He wrenched the door open and ran up to the hospital, flagging down a nurse and quickly telling her what was going on and asking which doctors were in the house.

Fred did not speak again as he walked towards the hospital, tenderly carrying his precious burden. He waited until a doctor had him place Maggie on a gurney, and after forcibly being told he could not follow, sat down on a chair in the lobby, his head in his hands.

Philip sat down next to him on the bench, leaning his head against the wall and quietly settled in to wait.
