Macavity had come home in the early hours of the morning, ignored everycat and gone straight to his penthouse.
The clothes he'd been wearing were in a small pile by the door, and the straight razor thrown into a sink and the door closed on it, and he was curled up, not actually on the bed but beside it.

Griddlebone stepped off of the lift, approaching the penthouse. She hadn't been able to get away the night before, but knew she couldn't put off seeing Mac any longer. When she didn't hear him call for her to enter she hesitated. After a moment of debating how best to go about this she finally knocked on the door, checking the handle.

The door handle was lock, and Macavity flinched back from where he was sitting. He hesitated a very long moment before rising and slowly making him way through the room, which was made somewhat harder by the fact all the lights were out.
Finally, he opened the door and almost closed it again when he saw Griddlebone. He couldn't come up with a greeting and so just blinked at her for a moment.

The white queen stood thee for a moment, taking in his appearance. She considered letting him be the first to speak, but discarded that as unlikely to cause any sort of speech. "Mac? May I come in?"

Swallowing, he nodded finally, and stood aside, closing the door behind her and fumbling to turn one of the lights on.

She glanced at him, turning to take in his appearance fully in the light. Her gaze was drawn to the clothes by the door, "I...Mac, what's happened?"

"Brachen's dead," he managed, finally speaking, voice hollow.

Her ears went back at that, "S-so soon? But the tr--" She broke off, looking toward the clothing again. "Mac...?"

She hesitated before taking a step nearer and reaching out to him, "Oh, Mac..."

"The verdict had come in ta han' him," Macavity continued, not quiet looking at her. "And he couldn't bear that thought and he's... he'd always been a bit strange in the mind about death and what it meant, but he said he couldn't run anymore so he asked me ta..." he swallowed hard, and shook his head, looking at the ground.

She finally rested a paw on his arm, "Is...I mean...Is there anything I can do for you?"

At her touch, he started shaking, and he shook his head, even as he automatically gathered her into his arms. "I... I don't know..."

She allowed him to draw her close, wrapping her arms around him, "Oh, Mac...I'm so sorry."
