I need to reread the book "How the Irish Saved Civilization" in the medieval time period. I read it back in... 10th grade and I remember thinking it was good even if his thesis felt a little forced. I really should see how I feel about it now with a BA in History ((I haven't graduated yet but my BA is pretty much complete in that subject)).
Well, it's just that Victorian society treats Misto like Victorian society treats a Hardy hero--it just crushes who they are. But yes, we're trying to get him to rise above it. And unlike 20s!Cori, Misto still gets to see/deal with his past relationship.
Love quadrangle from hell! All thanks to Martin in that one. Still worldbuilding it though so it might take a while.

The story I read from Chaucer was The Clerk's Tale (Griselda grated on my nerves - I can understand it somewhat but I think I mentioned that she was a bloody doormat to my advisor) - hated that with an everloving passion.
Remind me never to read Hardy XD I dislike it when they try to break the hero (or in that case, shatter him) and you can't rebuild him to the way he was. I like angst, I really do. I just hate angst for angst's sake
And whoohoo! On the fic and on VS's impending BA :D

I would never call Hardy angst for angst's sake. It's a carefully constructed social critique of what he saw at the time period--and often times he was entirely correct. It's a scathing reprimand to the entire Victorian culture and society.
Well, I'm in undergrad until Spring. I could graduate with the history BA now but I'm double majoring.

ah, well, I did admit that I haven't read Hardy (he'll go on the "to read someday" list) - I suppose I'd have to be truly in the mood for him (that's what happened when I tried to read Melville. Oi.. The hell was I thinking for taking on Moby-Dick. It's a cat killer (no pun intended))
and may I be so bold as to ask what the second major is? (I'm going to assume history is part one.)

As for CHaucer....I think I managed to evade the Clerk's tale since I didn't have to post on that one. VS can vouch for how little I did my reading by the last quarter of my Literature BA if I wasn't writing a paper on the topic. The problem with taking the Clerk's tale alone is that it misses so much that he said in other works. (e.g. the Wife of Bath--though she was merchant not noble, or Criseyde--though she was widowed and a lover not married.) There was one Canterbury tale, though I can't recall which off the top of my head, that involved "May" and "January" that was a tale of a noble marriage as well.

I probably would have touched on the others, but I had gotten to the Clerk's tale first and immediately hated it so I was a bit biased (although, the latest issue of a renaissance magazine I read covered a bit on Chaucer so I did manage to read a bit more)

Literature is the other major. So, stuff like Hardy. XD I have avoided Moby-dick til now but I would say Melville and Hardy are entirely different writers in a variety of ways. Time periods notwithstanding. XD

Ah
Gah, fell behind in Buffy!Verse, two new chapters to read. I think Mac is definitely going to have to watch himself around Tugger now that Tugger knows that it's Mac's fault we got Jerrie ((or Mac's fault that we got Cass who got Jerrie. I can't remember if Angel turned Spike or if it was Angel that turned Dru who then turned Spike)). I definitely can see Tugger holding that over his head as a threat to tell Grids if Mac does something like that again.
Do love that Jenny helped kick ass :D ((no, not biased at all since I try to play Jenny)) And I'm going out on a limb but if Misto really goes on a babble spiel, we're to assume he's been in the caffiene again? (excluding this one since he hasn't but claims he has?)
Love how Bomba was all "... oh, right, Care Bear with fangs" when she learned Mac was a vampire (and he's so not..) And ah, we're heading for the Halloween episode where they turn into their costumes.
And have I mentioned how creeped out Cass makes me? If you trying to capture how down right creepy Dru was in order for Cass to play her effectively, I think you've hit a home run.
off to BatB!verse And, oh, God, that painful scene where Tugger has to let Tumble go so Tumble can help his father. Did I mention that I get the sniffles when I watch that scene in the movie? Well, actually, this time, it felt like a punch in the gut - because I've gotten so invested in these two that it hurts to see Tumble leave Tugger to help Skimble.
And /thank you/ for having at least one village with a lick of sense. I like the fact that it's Alonzo (I keep wanting to write Laura Ingalls Wilder's husband's name right now) since he was Munkus' second.
And I like the fact that Tugger isn't too terribly mopey during the battle in the castle scene - unlike his Disney counterpart. At least he seemed a little more willing to fight. And whoohoo! Suitably crazed Cori (complete with hat!) - you could almost picture the "you get your hands off my man, you murdering arsehole!" ((or maybe that's just me))
Okay, now you've got me wondering - who the hell is Al looking for? I know he's in the kitchen so, that has me leaning toward Admetus but...
and now, hopping into Mr Peabody's WABAC Machine (::shifty eyes:: so, I may have watched a little of Rocky and Bullwinkle growing up.) to go visit Ireland.
poor Misto - getting lost in the forest, but at least it lets him meet Cori ((who really got an unfortunate tag XD Erm, well, you know what I mean, considering the way it's used in the '20s so..))
I am enjoying the Misto/Cori interaction (as per always) ((you make it hard to ship those two with anyone else XD))

It was Angel -> Dru -> Spike. And actually, if Tugger tried to hold that over Mac's head and told Grids in a fit of bitchyness, Misto would kill him and Tugger is well aware of this.
And no, Misto just naturally babbles. XD But his particular babble to Cori was making /no sense/ so he tried to blame that on caffeine. Him on coffee is quite dangerous. Always glad Cass is creeping you out. XD Doing something right then.
Well, Alonzo as I write him is always sane, if very put upon. And the way I had to cut the chapters made some of the scenes a little awkward but yeah, it's Admetus. They always end up being estranged childhood friends and I don't know why. XD
Tugger refused to be that mopey. He's like, yes, my life is over, no, I'm letting someone come up here to try and kill me.
Well, getting lost in the forest has some benefit... They make it hard to ship themselves with anyone else. It's really quite annoying.

Ah, true, true (although, I can see Tugger trying to do it if only to protect Grids from getting her heart broken rather severely when it comes to light that the reason she has Jerrie to contend with is because of Mac's indirect siring. And Tugger failing miserably at protecting her) And oh, no... Misto plus coffee is now making me think of this squirrel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmCjMRAzCiE (one of the best parts of the movie) That could be very dangerous (amusing, but dangerous). And everytime she speaks, Cass has me creeped out. I don't remember Dru creeping me out when I watched, but Cass, yeah, I think I've got a permanent case of the willies thanks to her. That's who I was thinking but for all I knew, Munkus was somewhere in the kitchen and well (only because there's a pile of Alonzo/Munkus fics out there that I was starting to mentally head in that direction).. But I can see Admetus/Alonzo as childhood friends. And cheers for Tugger. Seriously, that was one bit in the Disney canon that annoyed the hell out of me.

Glad Cass is creepy. XD Dru manages it well but if we can pull it off even in writing without the atmosphere and tone the actor can bring I think we're doing well. Yeah, Misto and coffee just stay away from each other in this verse.
It was pretty annoying. And ah yeah. See, Alonzo and Munku tend to be really good friends/flat mates but Admetus and him... I have no idea where it came from ((I think listening to an AIDA song...)) but they won't let it go.

((My parents would probably be disappointed in me, but I rather like the Broadway version of Aida better then the operatic one, only on the account of the music is very lovely. I love "Step too far" - and heh, there are Cats music videos set to Aida. There's a Victoria/Misto/Electra vid set to that song, Misto being Radames, Victoria being Amneris (Oh, I butchered the spelling there, but the Egyptian princess), and Electra as Aida))
I can see Alonzo and Munkus as good friends ((of course, given Munkus's secret job and how straight laced/anti-alcohol Al is here, I don't think those two would hit it off so well in the friends' department. Although, I could be wrong)) but Admetus/Al could be interesting (if it stays platonic/best friends forever, that's awesome.) ((Dropping a slightly more squicktacular elements into it would ::shudder:: Why do people like M-Preg? Especially in the Cats fandom? Biologically does not work that way. ...sorry, read one of those - Tugger/Misto with Misto being Mr Seahorse, ending up with the seven kittens. Yeah, I shuddered, even if it was well written. I did like the fic where Misto is practicing his conjuring and he accidentally pulls seven kittens out of the hat, but other then that ::shudder:: Sorry, slipped into a quasi rant there))
Although ::chuckles:: I could almost see Grids using a Misto hyped on coffee as a weapon (against Cori XD) - could be amusing.

((Most of AIDA has been picked up by our characters, and I'm pretty sure a Step Too Far went to Star Verse.))
Them staying platonic really does depend on the verse. Sometimes it's left open ended for different reasons, but the first time this showed up Admetus did kiss 'Lonzo, mostly to try and get him to be quiet. >.> Alonzo was a cop in that one and Admetus ran a third of the underworld. That was fun.
If Grids did that to him, she would owe him at least three whole batches of fudge (maybe four) and a month of groveling so... I doubt it'll happen.

I think you showed me part of that fic earlier in this thread - which reminds me, I really need to drag some of the others into my fiction (the only ones I've used so far are Misto, Munkus, Cori/Tant, Tugger, Vic, and Demeter, and name dropped Alonzo and Plato). Hopefully, I can do them justice like you and Meadow seem to.
((Star verse? I'm going to assume that's the prequel trilogy from Star Wars. And yes, oh God, yes, if that's Star verse, then yes, that song is damn near perfect))
Ah ha, well, the thought was amusing (even if not practical) for Buffy!verse.

Yup, it was that one. I enjoyed Alonzo in that one... he was Munku's flat mate again and had to put with far too much. Also the only character who actually killed one of the villians outright. Our heroes were sorta shit in that one....
((Yeah, Star Verse is the Star Wars adaptations.))
Amusing, yes, but Misto took one look at that and went "No"
