Goodness, I go away for a few hours and find that the point I was going to weigh in on has passed me by. I was going to weigh in on the tidbits regarding why Chip replaced the Music box. He was supposed to be a token character with like one line, but they heard the kid's voice and liked it so much they actually wrote the role into the script for him. It's got to be one of my favorite tidbits about that film. And the Maison de Lunes....if possible the song is creepier. Though it depends on the dynamic of the actors for how much creepier.
And no. VS, you are never allowed to break Misto like that again. Buffyverse is the /only/ permissible place for that and that's only cause we know how to fix him there.

Sorry about that ::sheepish:: ((Beauty and the Beast is a weakness for me. I own both soundtracks, a few dolls, two copies of the DVD, and a few dozen books. And hopefully, a copy of the HOG from BigFish.))

*grins* hardly your fault. Beauty and the Beast is the musical that instilled a love of theatre and appreciation for the Fine Arts in me. VS can vouch for the fact that I will chatter about it and all the different permutations I have read/seen for ages. No need to apologize.

The musical that did that for me was Phantom. I grew up listening to Crawford, and squeed with delight when the movie of the musical came out. Went and saw it twice (swooning over Butler). But my favorite was actually going to see it live. I think my mother took a picture of the chandelier (of course, she got rid of the photo by accident)
((And I swear, my Cats fiction completely has Beauty and the Beast vibes, in the sense that it's a human/Jellicle pairing. It makes sense in context XD))

Ah, yeah my Dad took me to see Beauty live when I was like 7. It's my best memory of him.
((I've read a couple of decent ones like that, so I know what you mean *grins*))

I've never seen it live, but I do enjoy the soundtrack (I ripped my favorites to my hard drive)
((If I ever feel bold enough, I may post one of the ones I'm working on. I have three that I'm batting around. One of which has Victoria backing Tugger into a corner because she's annoyed with him))

It really is worth seeing live, even at a High School, though I prefer the professional or semi-professional groups.
((That would be interesting, oh Vic.))

The high school I went to had Sweeney Todd as their musical, I want to say, about two years ago. Last year, I believe was Cabaret. Ah, yes, I just went to their page, it was Cabaret. The school play for this year is going to be Father of the Bride (that should be entertaining at least)
((Basically, Tugger was trying to remind Victoria that their human friend had left for New York because of issues brought up by Mac, and Victoria was not having that at all since she was good friends with the human. Tugger reminded me that the only queen who was allowed to do that was Demeter.))

Very nice, my cousin's school did Beauty last year, and Oliver! the year before.
((Ah yes. The interactions between Deme and Tugger can be rather interesting when done right.))

I'm waiting to see them do Cats. I mean, we already did Webber before. I can't remember the year, but we did have Joseph as the musical.
((I've only written Demeter once and that was in a different fic. I did touch on her "Macavity-sense" and how unnerved she is by things in general. I need to get back to that fic since I want to rework Misto's fight with Mac. Rather one-sided for a moment - and I had a friend help me with it XD))

Cats can be a tricky one for High schools and community groups, I've not seen it with either, though I know that some have pulled it off quite well and effectively.
((Ah, yeah. Mine tends to change story to story with how she handles things.))

I know I ended up watching a few high school versions of the Mac/Munkus fight because I wanted to show that scene to a friend since we were vaguely roleplaying it (we weren't quite serious about it since I'm the only one with any functioning knowledge of it.) ((I do have a copy of her reacting posted on a different board. Demeter shuddered, a chill racing up and down her spine. The same chill she got every time she sensed that "fiend in feline shape" that her sister tagged her once lover as. She glanced over at her mate, shifting so she was sitting closer, needing to feel his strength, to gain comfort from him. "I'm getting a bad feeling, Munkus. A very bad feeling" Her tail swished in agitation behind her. Something, someone dark had entered their home, and it was a familiar darkness. Far too familiar for her liking. ))

Ah yes, I do know there are High schools that have done it, it's just not the simplest one to stage on your average High School stage.
((Brava, it certainly suits the skittish queen seen in the film))

((I was trying to capture that, especially since she's not even in the Old Possum's book. She also gets unnerved by the twins, but that's because of their gift.))
Agreed, I know the stage at our high school doesn't look that big.

The issue with doing CATS at a highschool/community is the costumes. Shoes, warmers, wigs, and the leotards have to be hand painted. Not to mention you need a lot of people to do the make up for it too, and a lot of people at a high school level don't have the dancing training needed for a lot of the characters... Vic and Misto I am so looking at you. It's been done before but it's a very hard one to pull off. I saw a community production of it that did a good job, but even then the costumes were obviously downgraded--they had neither leg nor arm warmers and I think the wigs were pretty different.
Cats was one of the first soundtracks that sparked my love of musical theater ((In first grade my friend and I would act it out with our cat beanie babies, of which we had many. We used to bicker over who got to sing Macavity, not realizing it was a duet off the tape)).
And yes, I promise not to break Misto like that again. Though, we still have those scenes to write out later on, like when he cooks the entire pantry. >.> I can't decide if I'm looking forward to breaking him in Buffyverse or not...
