Bautista Moreno shivered again. The morning was cold and the fog was still layered heavily around the docks. He glanced over at his boss, while keeping a weather eye on the other officers who stalked the perimeter. He spoke softly, making an effort to not be overheard. "I've already looked, sir. The wounds are the same as the priest's." Bast's fur and Anubis' teeth, I was right. Gods know, I wish I wasn't. Damn, Damned, Damnable...

Sonya sighed, knees cracking as he rose from where he'd been kneeling by the body. "So, it is likely this was done by the same one who killed the priest then?" he asked, shaking his head. "A priest and a whore. Both at the docks late into the night. That is not a lot to go on, since we have been unable to find anything concerning the knife used here."

Bautista nodded and spoke in the same quiet tone. "We found a couple of promising specimens in the museum but nothing that produces quite the same jagged wounds. I hate to say it but I fear my earlier suspicions might be true: either we have a serial killer or a mimic." He gingerly stepped over to the corpse again and gently lifted the white sheet covering the victim. "She was a prostitute, you say?" She looks so young...but looks can be deceiving, as you well know, Bautista...

"Then those knifes may be a good place to start but tell us nothing," he said and sighed. "And would enough people even know the murders well enough to attempt to mimic them? We get little news from Miami up here, so they would have had to have been from there..." he shook his head, ignoring the last bit. He may have jumped to a conclusion about her, but she worked somewhere nearby and it seemed likely.

Bautista winced and respectfully replaced the sheet. "Then, our only conclusion can be that this is a serial killer, sir." How he wished it wasn't.

Sonya nodded again, rocking back on his heels and bringing a paw up to rub against his eyes. "Just what the city needed," he muttered. "Are there any other murders we can trace to him?"

Bautista shrugged helplessly. "Not that I know of, sir. I could certainly look through the records, though I have no idea how far back I should look..." It seemed another week of long nights was in his future. Perfect. How will I tell Inez?

Sonya shook his head. "The records for more than several months back are untustworthy, even if they are actually there. Hell, the newspapers might cooperate with us, but I doubt even that." He shook his head again, almost growling. "Damn!"

Bautista began to pace for a few moments then drew up short. "So we have three victims then... Have the other officers interviewed any bystanders or involved parties yet?"

((Two, they never found the third body))
Sonya shook his head. "No, they have yet to start interviewing. No one in this area likes to talk to cops, so I am not entirely sure how useful it would be."

((Bautista is referring to the murder in Miami as well, as well as the priest and the newest one.))
"We should at least try, then no one can say that we didn't try. Though I think I agree that it won't be much use..."

((Riiiiiight. Kay. Sounds good XD))
The Commissioner nodded. "True. Are you on that or should I find another officer?"

"I'll do it, sir. Never can be too careful."

Another nod. "Thank you. That would reassure me. Do let me know if there is anything that can be found, would you?"

"Of course, sir. I'll report back later." Saluting smartly, Baustista turned to walk towards what he now figured was a house of ill repute, where a crowd of twittering cats stood observing the torrid spectacle of murder. As he walked, he pulled his notebook out of his pocket, flipped to a clean page, and searched his other pockets for a pencil. This was going to take a while...
((Exeunt Bautista))
