Griz frowned, realizing she wasn't getting anywhere with this conversation. There were others she could go to. She almost told him that he was his father's son to hurt him, just barely didn't; it wouldn't have been true, and she couldn't really blame him for not helping her. "It hurt at first, I guess, Mac dear, but I suppose we don't know what to expect of each other," she said, turning to leave.
Halfway across his office, she paused and faced him as a latent thought caught up to her. "In case you do decide to look into it, Madeline had bits of blood and fur under her claws. She got a piece of her killer." She sneered, "I hope they hang the bastard. Perhaps we can agree on at least that? Or are you so contrary you'd say otherwise?"

"I'd say otherwise," he said very softly, voice low and honestly pained at the thought. There was so little way this wasn't Brachen and he only hoped that she was wrong. But the fact the queen had injured her attacker... if it was Brachen it would probably only take him a moment to see it.

Grizabella felt her fur tingle in a flash of rage and dread. She searched for anything, some lie in her son's face to tell her he hadn't meant it...but there was an expression of such emotion and loathing that she could put no other name to it. "I don't know what I thought I'd get coming here," she growled back as she left. Griz didn't quite slam the door, but she shut it far harder than was strictly necessary.
((exit Grizabella))

Macavity watched her go before his head sinked forward, falling against his arms crossed over the desk. He was tempted to inform Martin not to tell anycat else he was in, but figured that would only get him more visitors. Perhaps if he felt better he would have a new rug for his office but at the moment...
Nothing really mattered except that he just hurt.
God, he needed to find Brachen.
