Another sigh came from the red tabby. "Would you like the chronological list or the one in order of importance, or hell at this point we might be able ta manage an alphabetical list."

Munkus made himself comfortable in the chair--or as comfortable as he could. "Whichever. I have time."

Mac blinked, and sighed, leaning back and fishing out his cigarette case and lighter, lighting on as he talked. "I'm seein' someone that may have another guy lurkin' around somewhere, the only cat I'd call a friend is havin' his own emotional breakdown like I ain't ever seen before, I'm attemptin' ta run a gan' and one of my rivals may have just pinned me down, Baby Brother and I might have gotten into a yellin' match, and I was just informed that darlin' mother who left us didn't go far and is still in town. Lookin' a 'reat deal older though." He paid more attention to the smoke rising from the cigarette than Munkustrap.

Munkus processed most of that, unable to respond to much of it but finally spoke quietly. "So you found her then?"

Macavity froze, his eyes the only thing that moved as they went from a space on the wall to Munkustrap. "You knew?"

Munkus paused for a long moment before answering. "I had heard a rumor that she was in town, but I didn't know for sure. Nor did I trace the rumor. I didn't see the point."

"And you didn't see the point in tellin' me either then?"

"Mac, I didn't even know if it was true. Besides, she left us. If she couldn't be bothered to come back while living in the same city I didn't want anything to do with her. Yes, I probably should have mentioned it." He admitted.

Macavity sucked in a deep breath and let it out, leaning harder back into his chair, watching the smoke drift up toward the ceiling again. "Yeah, well, it went just about as well as that. She did leave us. She didn't even seem sorry." His face crumpled slightly. "She seemed ta think she had been helpin' us..."

Munkustrap's ears laced back at that. "Is she out of her mind?"

"So far as I can tell?" Mac shrugged. "It's possible. Or she's deluded. Amounts ta about the same."

The silver tabby shook his head slightly. "When did you find her?"

He blew out another smoke ring. "Few nights ago. The... the queen I'm seein' knew her."

Munkus tilted his head to one side, studying his brother for another long moment. "Where is she?"

"Down at the docks," Mac replied. "She runs a burlesque sort of place. Apparently she really wanted daughters," he said, unable to not be bitter.
