"Yes" Arthur said, he pointed to a vessel moored to one of the docks. It was over one hundred feet long, with two small masts and a central wheelhouse. It was painted mostly black, with a few prominent red and white stripes. "I'm the skipper of that vessel right there. The 'Queen of Hearts' I do everything with her, herring, cod, haddock, even lobster. Of course, I had to take out a loan to buy her, damn New York sleazebags."

Genghis looked the ship over, "Fine looking vessel," he agreed after a moment, "you pay more than she's worth?" he added, in question to the tom's last comment.

"I worked that boat for a good seven years before I bought it. I know I bought her for more than she's worth, but the previous owner and I are good friends. It was a kindness to a friend. What I didn't expect was to get taken for a ride by those bank folks." Arthur said, giving his pipe a final puff.

Genghis considered this for a moment, before deciding to ask, "Oh?"

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got a raw deal from that bank." Arthur said, putting his paw over the bowl of his pipe and inhaling. "I can barely afford the payments on a fisherman's wages."

"You've had to find other means?"

Arthur became quiet for a moment before saying "No, I've had to cut back on a few things, and sometimes making do with less. Hell, I should have bought that stuff last month." He indicated the crate with his now extinguished pipe.

"Oh?" Genghis tried not to sound overly interested.

"Yeah, the trawling winch has been getting a bit sticky." Arthur said, knocking out the burnt tobacco. "I've finally been able to get replacement parts."

The Siamese nodded, loosing interest somewhat.

"Anyways, thanks for the light." Arthur said, holding his pipe in his teeth. He bent down and picked up the crate. "You ever need seafood, give me or one of my hands a holler, tell them James sent you."

"The name's Arthur." He said, through his teeth to keep the pipe from falling, letting a hint of a smile come across his face as he jostled the crate into a comfortable carrying position.
