"Right." Tugger processed this, glancing down before he met his brother's eyes again, "You care t'explain any of this t'm or do I hafta' ask questions an' guess?"

"Guessin' might work," Macavity replied. "Though it's pretty simple. Your boss knew her. Your boss mentioned her. I went ta see her. Not much more ta it."

Tugger growled slightly, more from frustration and confusion than anything. "And?"

"And what?" Macavity demanded, teeth clenched around his cigarette and his arms crossed over his chest.

"You're gonna drop that bombshell an' then not tell me anythin' else!?"

"What more is there ta tell?" Macavity demanded. "She's here, she always has been, and cares about as much as usual about us--which is not at all. You want ta know more, you can go see her yourself. Your boss knows the way well enough if it matters that much ta you."

Tugger growled again, but shook his head. "Don't want t'see her. Why the hell would I?" didn't mean he wasn't a bit curious about what had happened when Macavity did though, or indeed wouldn't mind just a little more detail on how this had come about, not to mentoion how and why she was still in town.

Mac shrugged, raising one arm to take the cigarette out, holding it away for a moment. "Then why bother talkin' ta me about it?"

Tugger shook his head, confusion and disbelief written across his features. "Askin' you? You were the one who brought it up!" he couldn't understand why Mac seemed to be deliberately so vague about all of this, it was as if he was doing it on purpose, almost some kind of joke. Except it wasn't funny, not in the slightest.

"I brought it up, I told you about it, you demanded ta know more, and then said you didn't want ta see her. I'm lettin' you know she's in town. You want ta know more about her? You can talk to her, that's all."

"All you told me about it is the bleedin' bare minimum. I still don't understand why or how she's even around here. If y'ain't gonna help me understand then why the hell did y'tell me in the first place Mac? Coz I sure as hell wish y'hadn't. You're right, no I don't want t'see her, not now not ever, but now this is gonna be on my mind. An' jus' coz I don't want t'hear from her, don't mean you couldn't bother t'explain things a little. Don't mean I don't deserve answers as much as you do, but the idea of seein' her. Mac, she left because of me! And anyway," he added quickly, voice suddenly shaking as he realised what he'd said aloud, "I wouldn't know her from the next person."

For a long moment Macavity blinked at him. "You asked me why I was here," he said with a shrug, still processing. "And she certainly didn't leave because of you, if that's what you were thinkin'."

"She might as well have done." Tugger replied, not really believeing his brother. "And hell, y'still coulda bin' less blunt about it."

"I don't have the inclination ta be less blunt," Mac said, shaking his head, and taking another drag of the cigarette. "And it has less ta do with you and more ta do with him," Mac added.

"No," Tugger replied, "y'seem t'enjoy bein' vague." he didn't respond to Macavity's other comment, picking up more on the use of the word 'less' (which suggested he had still been part of the reason) than he did on the referral to their father.
