"Well, Mom doesn't like me being out by myself after dark. I'm grown, but she worries and with Dad gone... well I try not to make her life any harder."
She sighed. And not having any friends closed that loophole for her.
"But it would be nice."

"Well if alone was the problem..." he said and then blinked. Surely he had not just suggested something like that aloud? "Not, of course, that your mother would have any reason to trust me beyond strangers, and even if you wanted to it would have to wait quite a while..." he babbled to try and fill the space after he'd said something so stupid.

"That would be nice." She stammered. "Once my leg is mended, if you're sure. I don't think my mother could object."
Not to a young man like him, polite, soft spoken, even if his work was questionable, that was no real reflection on him.

He blinked and then nodded. "Y-yeah, it would have to wait for me to recover anyway. So... a while, but," he added, smiling softly. "It still sounds enjoyable."

"I could give you my address. Or phone number." Her voice was nervous as she dug into the pockets of her coat for a paper and pencil.

Another blink on his part, though he smiled softly. "Whichever works. Besides, I'm going to be easy enough to find for a while."

"Doc says it'll take me at least a month before this leg is solid again."
She offered it, knowing that she may receive no information in return. He'd been reticent about information around his accident.

He nodded. "Sounds somewhat right on my end as well honestly," he replied, accepting the information. Honestly, he would love to give something in return, but had no idea where he would even be living when he got out. He still had the room with the Howes and he thought, thought he would return there--but god how he wanted to return to Fourth Street instead. And if he did, he would certainly not feel comfortable giving out that address.

She found a stub of a pencil and an old grocery list. Turning to write against the end table between the beds, she crossed the list out and wrote her name and contact information on the flip side. Her handwriting was a neat slightly angled cursive, without excessive frills or loops.
She slid it across the table towards him. "Here."

He smiled at her. "Thank you," he replied, glancing over the handwriting. Even if he had felt like he could give her any sort of information, his handwriting was notoriously bad and she probably would never have been able to read it anyway. But still somehow he felt he should somehow explain... "Honestly I have no idea where I might be in a month's time or I would give you the same courtesy..."

"Oh that's alright. If I have a message in the meantime I'll just send it here." Again, edging on a joke. Every minute with this Tom seemed to boost her courage.

He blinked and then grinned. "Well, I do hope to eventually have a chance to leave..."

"Oh of course." She fluttered, "and then you can use those lovely numbers" she waved at the note "and we can go celebrate our health."
This is too easy, she thought, something's going to go wrong.

He grinned and nodded. "Sounds good to me. A celebration is usually in order for such things."

Victoria lay her head back on the pillows she was leaning on. Smiling.
This was certainly something to look forward to. She wondered if she had any dresses that would be appropriate for dancing...
