Victoria smiled slightly as she replaced the last paperwork from her armful of files in its' rightful place on the bottom shelf. Mr. Seidensticker had left early today and she'd had the office to herself for the most part. The quiet company of the case files in the back room was soothing.
She stretched her arms before her as she returned to her desk at the front. Perhaps she'd have time to work on her homework before it was time to close up.

Munkustrap checked his watch before stepping into the law office. The firm he was with was dealing with a case similar to one Seidensticker had defended a few years before and he was hoping to get a bit more information on the defense that had won that case.
The silver tabby approached the desk where a white queen was seated. "Excuse me, miss?"

Victoria's heartbeat picked up as the Silver Tom entered. Breathing slowly she counted to three in her head to build up her courage before she looked up at him. She couldn't hide the tension in her frame, but she managed to get "How may I help you, sir?" out without losing her breath or squeaking. She looked back down at her desk, closed the homework and set it aside. Luckily her hands weren't shaking. Having the office to herself must have been good for her nerves today.

He offered her a reassuring smile, briefly, "I was hoping to speak with Mr. Seidensticker, is he in?"

"Mr. Seidensticker left early today." She swallowed and tried to smile. It wasn't really working, too small and unsure to carry the force of the intended expression. "Is there a message you would like to leave for him, or.." she took a breath and smoothed her skirt, the action steadying. "perhaps I can help?"

He considered her for a moment. "Perhaps you can. I'm looking for information on the case he defended a few years back. Johnston vs. Miller. Would have been summer '23 or so I think."

She nodded and stood. "If you'll just have a seat, I'll go see if I can find the files. I'll just be a moment." She backed out of the room, tail pressed against the back of one leg and once through the doorway, fled to the far end of the files.
She took a few bracing breaths and went hunting through the files. She remembered the case he had referred to. It had taken place the summer she'd begun working for Mr. Seidensticker. The file, thicker than most, slid out from it's place on the fourth shelf kicking up a modest amount of dust. She sneezed, a loud high pitched matter and only barely managed to not spill the file.
Clutching the file to herself she paused at the door and took a steadying breath before she went through to the front room.

Munkus had settled in a chair near her desk to wait, his ears tipped in the direction of the fileroom. His blue eyes darted to her as she came out. "Thank you, Miss....?"

She hesitated just outside the door as he asked for her name "Duetermann." ((pronounced debtor-man)) She said, working up the courage to look him in the face again before she retreated back to her place at her desk. She flipped open the file and began taking quick shorthand notes of what was in the file and after a minute closed it again.
"I'm sorry sir. I will need your name." The words were slow but clear, her eyes on the paper before her, ears flicking back and forth.

Munkus' brow rose slightly. "Any relation to Seidensticker's former partner?" He registered what else she'd said and nodded, "Of course. Munkustrap Hollister, an attorney with McBride's firm."

She wrote down his information. "He was my father." She replied, keeping her eyes on her work, letting the feel of paper under her paws hold her here. Once she finished writing she picked up the file and carried it to him counting to three in her head so she could look him in the face again. "All set then." She said, trying the smile again and offering the file.

He offered her another reassuring smile as he took the file. "Thank you. Your father was a good man, a good lawyer."

Her smile became more genuine and a little tension slipped out of her posture. "Thank you, it is good of you to say so."

"I only say what I saw. He did his job well, and he seemed to like it."

She turned away then, moving back to her desk. Ears settled and at ease, years of posture training holding her gracefully erect. "I couldn't say if he did. He didn't bring his work home much."
