Misto let out a low breath, rubbing his nose. One of his ears flickered slightly during his speech and he wasn't entirely sure how to handle something like that. "Maggie, I... thank you," he said softly. "But, I've been dealing with him my entire life, it was...fine." Oh, that was a blatant lie, considering what Jones had just told him. "Please, Maggie, do your best to avoid him after this. He tends to be vengeful and I, well I would prefer you not end up here too."

Maggie's eyes grew large and she nodded. "I promise I'll be careful." She cringed again and spoke in a soft voice. "I'm sorry that I made you worry."

Misto considered her for a moment before offering her a smile. "It, it's fine, I suppose. Just, be careful around him alright?" He glanced a little to the side, considering the different things she'd brought from the house. "But, ah, thank you," he murmured.

Speaking in the same soft voice, Maggie let out a breath. "You're welcome. I...I brought some food as well. There's soup in the mason jar with the red ribbon and tea in the one with the green ribbon. Biscuits in the box, wrapped in the dishtowel. There's apples in the cloth bag..." Her voice drifted off for a second and her ears fell back though not flat. "I'm sorry, I was rambling. Guess I'm still flustered."

"No," he murmured, forcing himself to give her a smile. "It's perfectly fine. Thank you very much for bringing me food and such. And..." he sighed softly and this time his smile was a bit more genuine though still not his usual grin. "And even thank you for trying to stand up for me."

Her eyes flickered towards his and then away. She smiled back, genuine as well but a little wry. "You're welcome. I need to stop giving you heart-attacks. You're supposed to be resting and getting better..."

"Well, yes," he said with a shaky laugh. "But you're hardly the first to give me one today so... In fact you're the third."

Maggie's ears perked back up and she crossed her arms in front of her chest. "I'm the third one today?! You, sir, are supposed to be getting rest. And for that matter, you need to be more careful anyway, landing in the hospital like this." She began to waggle her paw at him in a mock scolding manner, her face very serious though the corners of her mouth kept trying to twitch up into a smile.

"Oh those constant heartattacks are so not my fault," he protested, almost offended until he noticed her mouth twitching upward and having to smile faintly in return. "Honest. I'm trying to rest as much as possible here." He ignored the comment about ending up in the hospital. Yes, he had been drunk, but from what his uncle had said, being entirely sober would probably not have helped anyway. Beside, he didn't want to think about his uncle and the hospital... not yet anyway.

Maggie's smile was a bit wistful. "I believe you, Bast knows I do. I'm not really helping you rest at the moment, so I'll be back later with some dinner for you. I can guarantee it'll be better than the food here... Is there anything else you would want me to bring with me later? Books, newspaper, magazines? A coloring book?" Her smile turned slightly cheeky with the last suggestion.

He smiled, glancing over and noticing she'd already brought House of Seven Gables. "No, thank you, this should do for now. Though, if you do come back later a newspaper might not go awry. Or, a coloring book if you happen to find one," he said with a faint grin. "Though I think you left me enough food here for a week."

"Lots of food helps with recovery, don'tcha know. I expect you to eat most of it." She waggled her eyebrows and then laughed, a clear gentle sound. "I'll make sure to grab the newspaper when I'm on my way back and I'll go see if Miss Pierce has a coloring book at the general store. Don't worry, I won't say whom it is for." Her grin beamed across at him through her giggles.

Misto's eyes widened and he laughed softly again. "Oh, that's good, since I actually know her and think I would die of the shame in that moment. But," he paused. "Thank you. And I'll see what I can do about that food, hm?"

Her smile softened. "I'll hold you to that, and I'll bring some cheese tomorrow for the biscuits and the apples. They taste wonderful together." She hesitated for a moment and then picked up the now empty wicker basket. "Well then, I'll be back later tonight to check on you and take away the jars so I can refill them for tomorrow... Take it easy, all right?"

He nodded. "I will, promise," he said with a faint smile. "Have a good afternoon."
