"And don't care wherever they're left once you've attained it. It's the same thing." Tantomile's tone was equally cold, she'd lost any of the sneering that had come with the petty insults.

Coricopat looked her over for a long moment, shrugging slightly in response. "They're of no use after that. And it's not as though you do any differently."

Tantomile shook her head, "I've still got both friends and colleagues from years ago. Perhaps a Christmas card once a year isn't much, but no doubt you don't bother with ties like that." she didn't know why she felt the need to defend herself against Coricopat's stupid comments, but in this moment she felt the need to suggest it was possible to attain success withouth trampling all of those around you to do it. Never mind that later in life, she and her twin had inadvetedly become more similar again in how they did things, what stung was that Coricopat had never been different, once he'd got his place at university he'd not been able to care less about what happended to her.

"If I cared to have such ties that would be one thing. They're distractions at best." he replied icily. Why was she belaboring this point?

None of this would have normally affected Tantomile like it was now, it was still the after effect of the use of her childhood nickname, every time he referred to the way he treated others, she felt like it was a direct reference to her.
"Glad to finally know how you always saw me." she said after a few moments, there was no anger in her tone now, no spite, just a sort of numbness "I believe I'm coming to understand how things have always been for you." Whilst they were young, until high school at least, she'd hoped to have been the exception, now it seemed she hadn't been, not ever.

Corciopat blinked, staring at her in surprise for a long moment. Where had that come from? "What the hell?"

((And here was me thinking Tugger was the one with abandonment issues.))
Tantomile shook her head, managing to pull herself together a little bit. "I don't think you've got the right to be questioning me about this after you've just made it perfectly clear how little you care about anything other than yourself, since understanding would make little difference to you."

((Goodness, yeah))
Her brother frowned at that. "Right. Fair enough." He took a deep breath, clearing his expression. "Now, if you don't mind, I have work that needs to be done."

Tantomile picked up the file from the desk, she'd have to return it to the Comissioner, "I rather thought you might, I hope you took whatever notes you needed from this."

"I have. Until you do your job, though, there's not much I can do." He picked up the files he'd been working on before she came in.

"I intend to." The reply was short, "I'll be in touch." she added, looking like she dested the idea as she replaced the file in her briefcase and slipped on her coat.
"Goodbye Coricopat."

"Good day, Tantomile." Came his absent reply as much of his attention had already left her to return to his work.

Tantomile walked to the door calmly, leaving in silence. However the sharp bang as she pulled the office door closed behind her echoed throughout the corridors of the courthouse.
((Exit Tantomile))

Cori flinched at the slammed door, growling under his breath. Whatever he'd said or done had been what he meant, but he wasn't sure it was what she took it as. Oh well, nothing changing there....
