Tugger fiddled with stray hairs in his mane, internally fighting against a sudden wave of emotion. "Talk about outta' the blue." his voice was oddly thick, "S'almost six years Mac," and suddely there was a complete change in his voice, even hint of a growl in the tone, "Six bleedin' years an' he thinks he can just..." the volume rose as well, Tugger not realising, or just not caring if his words carried through to the living room. He turned sharply, "I'm goin' upstairs."

One of Mac's ears flickered back. "I'm not jumpin' around for joy either here, but six years is how lon' it takes ta 'et a degree like that, and this was about the time he was goin' ta 'et out, so it's not ta shockin' he's here now but... alright," he said in reference to going upstairs. "But he's not goin' ta be goin' anywhere, and you share a room with him so it might be better ta 'et the greetings over with now."

Munkus rose from where he was seated on the couch, his ears flickering back at his younger brother's words. He hesitated, considering whether to stay where he was or move into the hall, he settled for remaining in the living room.

Tugger did growl a bit at that. "He had holidays, wouldn'ta killed him t'come visit once in a while." However as he looked back at his eldest brother, he sighed, trying to pull himself together and speak rationally, "Look, y'really think it's a good idea f'me t'talk to him right now, coz I might well be sayin' somethin' I'll regret."

Mac shrugged. "Just, be aware you'll have ta do it sometime, and probably today. Besides, come on Tug, you know as well as I do that comin' home would have cost money."

"Fine," Tugger growled, "t'write more than once a semester, then. Would that've bin' so hard?" he put one foot on the bottom stair, shaking his head, "Jus' don't put me in a room with him right now Mac," he warned, though there was a twinge of desperation in his tone now, "jus' not this second. I dunno, I need a bit of time." he looked at his footpaws, the last part coming out more as a mumble, "Ain't got no clue what t'say t'him."

For a long moment Mac paused and then nodded. "Fair enough. Take some time then, just, be aware you're goin' ta have ta talk ta him sometime, and probably soon."

Tugger nodded, "I know," he took another step upstairs, "jus' need t'get my head t'gether first." his tail curled a little in shame as he said it and he suddenly hurried up the rest of the stairs. "I'll be down later."
A moment later there was the bang of the bedroom door followed by the old but still all too familiar sound of the dresser scraping across the floorboards. Tugger didn't want either of his brothers to try and talk to him again until he was ready. He didn't know what ready would feel like, he just knew he couldn't face Munkustrap right now.
((exit Tugger, for now))

Munkus glanced at the ceiling at the scraping sound. He'd nearly forgotten what it sounded like, but he'd used the same barricade when younger, his tail twitched at that. Great.

Mac blinked rapidly at the sound of the dresser being pulled into place, the sound setting his fur on end. He stalked back into the living room. "Right, well then," he said, resuming his chair. "He doesn't want ta talk ta you at the moment."

"So I hear. Can't say as I blame him." Munkus replied with a shrug.

Mac shrugged, slouching down in the chair. "Would say you should start unpackin' but I don't think that's goin' ta happen anytime soon." He'd half considered offering Munkustrap the single room, but had discarded the thought. He didn't want to wake Tugger up by coming in late and leaving early. And he figured he should nap between then and dinner anyway, since he needed to be alert that evening. He considered, glancing at his battered old watch. "Well, dinner will probably be in a few hours."

Munkus nodded. "Well, I'm going to at least take my suitcases upstairs even if I can't set them in a room."

"Fair enough," Mac said, returning his gaze to the mail and flipping through the rest of it quickly. Bills, bills, damnit, another bill. He sighed, setting them aside and rising. "Think I'm goin' ta try and 'et some sleep before tonight."

Munkus nodded slightly. "Fair enough. See you later, Mac."
