Martin leaned back in one of the honestly, terrible, little chairs at the speakeasy, going solidly at his drink. Damn that ball, it had been quite the event, but distracting to say the least. All of his time and energy had gone into it, leaving very little for his own projects.

It had been a while since Teazer had found a time to go out, but tonight she was confident her brother wouldn't be back until late, and although the holiday season had been pleasant, she was starting to feel a little suffocated, so given the opportunity, she'd headed out that evening.
The little speakeasy was busy that night as she stepped through the main door, but then the act tonight was a good one, so she wasn't surprised as she wove her way through the crowd to snag a table near the front, she'd get a drink a little later.

Martin's ears perked forward at the sight of the shorter queen, and he waved an arm, hoping to draw her attention without actually having to move.

The wave caught Teazer's eye, something she was too used to looking out for when the cafe was busy not to notice it. She frowned for a second at the tomcat, she still didn't know if persuing things here was a good idea, but she didn't want to be rude, and making friends never hurt after all. She remembered the tom's initial shyness in approaching her, and decided it didn't hurt to give her company to a lonely cat.
Teazer weaved her way around the tables, coming to stand by Martin's table, "Hello again." she didn't take a seat just yet though.

Martin plastered a smile on his face. "Ah, yes, it's been a while I think since I've last seen you here. Have you been well?"

"Not bad thanks," Teazer agreed, "jus' busy with the holidays an' all. How're you?"

"Very, very glad the holidays are over," he replied, and wasn't even lying. "Take a seat, would you?"

Teazer's ears flicked back slightly at his words, not sure if that was a request or an order. She sat down anyway, frowning to herself, she just couldn't make him out at all.

He considered her as she sat down, considering frowning himself. Hrm. She seemed actually wary of him, and he wanted to know what had changed. Unless she had asked after him, which he doubted, it probably wasn't even anything to do with him. "So, did you have a good holiday season then?" he asked, watching her, wondering if any of her reactions would give him anything to work with.

Teazer couldn't precisely tell herself just why she was wary. Some of it was gut feeling, some of it was from last time as well, how after months of buying her the drinks from afar he'd very suddenly gotten over his shyness. The rest, though she'd hardly dare contemplate it was how things were going with Sonya. She guessed that Martin must like her to show so much interest, she couldn't imagine another reason anyway, and she knew if he asked her, she'd be saying no. She didn't want him to feel she could possibly of been leading him on if it came to that.
"Not bad at all thank you. Just spent it with family."

He nodded. "What sort of family do you have?"

"Jus' me an' my brother," Teazer admitted, "but we get along well enough. What about you?"

One ear flickered and he let it. "Just me," he said. Brother, hm, yes, that would be Mungojerrie. If he recalled correctly they had had an uncle as well... But he could think about that more later. Right now he needed to actually focus on what might pass for conversation.

Teazer nodded, "You from around' here?"

Martin shook his head. "Was born a few states up, and spent a lot of my youth in England." One ear flickered again. "From your accent, I assume you aren't entirely from around here either."
