Tantomile nodded and smiled, admittedly a less genuine smile than she'd given Charles or Macavity, but not unfriendly. He eyes flicked over Vala's face for a moment as they shook hands, taking in what was there. "A pleasure to meet you." she glanced at Sonya again, wondering idly what the connection was between the two.

"She is one of our female officers," Sonya said, catching the glance and realizing how odd the pair of them might look without that information--or with for that matter.

"One of your officers," Tantomile repeated, pointedly omitting the word 'female', she gave Vala a slightly warmer smile, "a real pleasure."

Vala smiled in return. She noted that the other queen had avoided clarifying 'female'. She was glad. In the past she'd gotten resistance from others because of her 'tom's job'. "I don't believe I've seen you around town."

"Perhaps not," Tantomile agreed, "but I often seem to find myself down at the station for one reason or another, so I'm sure this won't be the last time we meet."

Vala looked panicked for a moment. "Please, I think my head might explode if you tell me it's because you're a criminal mastermind." Vala tried to pass it off as a joke.

Sonya arched a brow and looked away rather than chuckle.

For a second, Tantomile's expression was completely unreadable, then she laughed softly, "I hardly believe I'm the type, actually, I do psycological criminal and witness profiling for certain cases," she explained, "in short, I work for the state corrections board. I'm working on a certain case for the comissioner at the moment," she acknowledged Sonya with a nod, "simply fascinating."

Sonya returned the nod once he no longer felt like laughing. While "fascinating" was not how he would describe it, he was usually thankful somecat might understand certain criminals better than him.

"That's an interesting profession," Vala commented. "What made you specialize like that?"

"Some might say the same of you," Tantomile remarked, though she meant it cordially enough, "I suppose I've just always had an interest in what makes other cats tick. Once I got my doctorate I had to discover what I was able to do with it. Though I do work privately as well."

Vala smiled. "I can respect that. I'm not so good at what makes cats tick - I'm pretty good about the different ways they can stop ticking, but that's where my expertise ends."

This time it was Tantomile's turn to arch an eyebrow, which she did, though decided to refrain from questioning further, changing the subject instead.
"Are you both enjoying tonight?" Somehow she doubted Sonya was, and it was his face her eyes flicked to first in attempt to read the reaction behind his words.

Sonya forced a smile and nodded. "It is a lovely evening. Very... tastefully decorated," he replied. And it was a decent enough night, though he would prefer more coffee or the ability to actually get to sleep at a sane hour. However, compared to other parties he had been forced to, this one was not bad. Though that did not mean he was moving beyond this buffet table.

Tantomile had to bite back a laugh at that, "I'm certainly enjoying myself." she agreed.
