Sonya shuffled through some papers, hoping he looked intimating. "Right," he said, turning to Tugger as well. "We're going to need to know what you were doing down at the docks, anything you saw or heard about the murder, and why you ran from the scene."

Tugger's eyes flicked to Munkustrap now he'd been addressed, a look of askance, seeking permission to respond to Sonya's question. Though as he met his brother's eyes for the first time, his ears were still flat on his head, he disliked being this submissive where Munkustrap was concerned, but at the very least knew right now, his brother was his best way out police custody.

Munkustrap nodded slightly, praying that Tugger would know what to say that wouldn't tangle him with anything illegal.

Tugger turned back to Sonya, taking a brief sip of coffee to allow him a moment to collect his thoughts before he begain his explanation.
"I was down at the docks all day," he explained, "got a lift down with a friend in the mornin' and we both picked up some casual work on the quay. In the afternoon, he left my there an' I went t'do some work f'another friend, whilst he had some business downtown. I was done with my job, an' waitin' f'him to come back to give me a lift home when you lot," he nodded to Sonya, "showed up. I didn't have a clue what was goin' on," he turned to his brother, "I swear." This was as much the need to justify things to Munkustrap as to get himself out of the whole mess, "Someone yelled at me, it all caught me off guard and I just panicked and started running." he turned back to Sonya again, "I don't know anythin' about that murder, honest," he shuddered at the memory of the body, "it was horrible."

Munkus looked at his younger brother, he could vouch for the majority of the story and he knew who to call for almost all the rest. He also knew his younger brother, a murder wasn't his speed. Frankly it was more...Cat he hoped it wasn't who he was thinking of.

Tugger glanced back at Munkustrap when he felt his brother's eyes on him, well at least he didn't look any more angry than he had been before, hopefully Tugger was on the right track. His ears unflattened, but flicked a little, betraying his nervousness as he waited for Sonya's response.

Sonya considered. Panicking was not the strangest thing he had ever heard. "Who were you working for then?"
((Tugger won't know this, but Sonya knows Griddlebone, so having her able to vouch for that story would help him... at least a little))

Another cursory glance at Munkustrap, though Tugger responded under his own steam this time, "In the morning, whichever boats were loadin' there today. I dunno the name of the guy who overseas it." he admitted, "he just takes the first cats who show up willin' to work." he knew Sonya would be far more interested in who he'd been working for in the afternoon, given it was closer to the murder taking place, but he was playing for time to come up with an answer, he didn't like to mention the Fishbone, though he was more concerned about covering for Griddlebone than himself.

Munkus kept his mouth shut though he had to suppress the urge to let Tugger know what he thought of his evasions.

"And in the afternoon?" Sonya prompted, looking at the other over some papers.

"In the afternoon I was doin' odd jobs at an establishment round that way." Tugger managed, he knew it was flaky, but didn't know how to say more without dropping Griddlebone right in it.

Sonya gave him a long hard look. "Which establishment?" he said slowly.

Tugger's ears flicked again and behind him, the tip of his tail was twitching, how was he supposed to answer this?
"Look, I don't see how this makes any difference, what's it got t'do with some poor cat gettin' horribly murdered?"

"I would like to have people to vouch for you," he replied. "And also to tell me what time you got off work. Back up your story, stuff like that. But, I guess it doesn't matter that much." He shuffled through the papers again and bit his lip, thinking. "Alright, tell you want. I'm going to need to get some more information, and we'll need to question you again. So, either your brother here can post your bail, or you can stay here tonight, but even if you do get bailed out, be aware we'll probably have to get some information from you later."

Tugger looked at Munkustrap, his expression somewhat helpless, he was way out of his depth here.
