"I guess that figures from when you bailed me out." Tugger admitted, "Jeez, I even heard him agree with you that night. Though I still say that wasn't my fault." he added, unable to let it drop completely.

Mac smirked at the first part of the sentence though it faltered toward the end of it. He sighed. "No," he said finally. "It wasn't your fault. We... both could have handled that night better." Now let it drop, he added silently, having already admitted more than he would've liked.

"Well I don't see what I could've done differ..." Tugger started, thinking of how he'd acted at the police station, then he remembered his outbursts afterwards. "Alright," he conceeded, "I'll accept that." it was the best he'd get from Macavity anyway.

Swallowing, Mac nodded. "Good." His tail was lashing out behind him again and he forced it to stop, letting it curl around the chair leg instead. "As for me and 'Strap agreein', we do it more than you might think."

"Mebbe more than either of you would admit?" Tugger asked somewhat artfully. Unable to resist grinning just a little.

Mac's own grin only widened at that. "Who, us, not the admittin' type? You must be thinkin' of two other toms."

Tugger chuckled, "Well nice t'know you ain't completely at each other's throats anyway." Macavity, it seemed, was more willing to look at his relationship with Munkustrap in a realistic way than the silver tabby was.

"Please. We're only at each other's throats on special occassions," Mac replied, chuckling slightly himself.

"Does this mean I should expect fireworks at this festive occasion of yours?" Tugger remarked, still grinning himself. Joking around with his brother like this felt good. Even when he and Munkustrap were on good terms, it was rare for them to joke, and he'd missed conversations like this with Macavity more than he realised.

Mac laughed more outright at that. "Well, I try ta keep that sort of fireworks out of the public eye, but I'm sure some sort of fireworks will be present."

That's assumin' you get him to agree to come." Tugger remarked, "I ain't even sure how I feel about it yet." he admitted, able to be more open now things seemed to have relaxed between them. "Nothin' personal, but well, it's gonna be full of bigwigs, right? Not sure how well I'd fit in."

Mac stuffed out his cigarette, considering before he spoke. "I'll see what I can do about him. As for you, why wouldn't you fit in?" He blinked, thinking about it and figuring out why. "Don't worry about what other people might think. Come anyway, I'd like ta see you there."

Tugger sighed, "If it's all the same t'you, I don't wanna spend an evenin' bein' looked down on. I'm sorry Mac, it's not that I don't appreciate the gesture, but really?"

Mac almost scowled, but kept his expression mostly neutral. "Really," he said after a moment's hesitation. "The only people ta look down on you would be idiots anyway."

"Bunch of idiots or not, it still don't make me comfortable. Doubt I've even got anythin' smart enough t'wear."
