"Yeah well he'd have killed me if I'd said anythin' without him there, as if he'd trust me t'get myself out of it. Besides, gives him another chance to be a martyr about it." Tugger replied bitterly, "I dunno how I'm supposed t'win anymore. Besides, if he cares enough to want to talk to me that badly, I can't avoid him all the time, he's only gotta say somethin' when I get home, he's usueually still up doin' paperwork."

"Fair enough," Misto said, still leaning against the counter, his ears flickering at he looked around the speakeasy. He really had no idea how to respond to things like this except to be a listening ear--after all his only living relation was Jones and that was an entirely different basket of problems. "You just don't have much luck with your brothers do you?"

Tugger snorted, "Not much luck with family full stop. I guess you and me are in the same boat there. Just what did happen with your uncle anyway?"

Misto winced and turned back to the dance floor rather than look at the other. "I came home late, he yelled at me, I said something stupid, he said he should have left me to be an alley cat like my father, and that I was worthless and I ended up calling him..." he paused, trying to recall it. "Fat son of a bitch who was over the hill, among many other things, he threw a paperweight at my head and kicked me out," he said quickly.

"Jeez," Tugger pulled a face, "sounds like a nightmare. Though," he added in an attempt to make light of the situation, "there are wose things than paperweights t'have thrown at your head." He absently ran a paw over the back of his own head, the recent bruise from being thrown at the wall by Deuteronomy still a reminder if he put a little pressure on it.

"Eeh, I don't know, it was a pretty damn heavy paperweight. Though, at least it managed not to hit me in the head, or I probably would still be unable to stand." He noticed Tugger's motion and winced a little in sympathy. "Oh the plus side being kicked out forced me to actually get out of that hellish place." He only wished he was living someplace where he could conceivably invite Tugger to stay with him rather than continue to live in his own hellish place.

Tugger nodded "Ev'ry cloud has a silver linin'" he joked bitterly, knocking back the last of his drink.

Misto had still only completed half of his own and he took another small sip. "Sometimes," he agreed. "So, what are you going to do now?" He wasn't sure if he meant in general or about the other's family.

"Tugger shrugged, "Cat knows, same as ever I guess. Least workin' down the docks is seemin' t'be a permernant thing. Got Milady t'thank for that."

"Oh good," Misto said, smiling finally. "Despite everything it looks like we both have jobs now. That's something at least."

Tugger nodded, "It is. One less thing f'others to berate us about anyway. And the extra cash doesn't hurt. Means I've got enough for a couple of drinks of an evenin' anyway. All we need now is a couple ofs beautiful gals to grace us with their presence."

Misto choked slightly on his drink and coughed twice to clear his throat. "Money is always helpful," he said. He glanced around the room. "Sadly, I don't see any beautiful gals coming toward us."

"Might have somethin' t'do with the fact that we look like a couple of miserable loosers propping up the bar." Tugger repiled, though with returning good humour, he grinned as the band struck up, putting his glass down. "Perhaps a little dancin' might persuade them otherwise."

Misto swallowed the last of his own drink a little too quickly. "And whom are we supposed to be dancing with?"

"The girls," Tugger rolled his eyes at Misto, "you just ask 'em if they wanna dance, not difficult."
