Mac gave him a long look. "I still can't 'et out of my father's house," he said. "At least not ta the point I'm willin' ta leave Tugger there, and not to the point I feel safe enough takin' him somewhere else. How the hell would I 'et out of town?"

Mac rolled a shoulder. "First time I got hurt like this," he said. "Anythin' else, well, I just don't tell him." He had gotten good at hiding pain long ago.
