The mottled tom looked up, scrutinizing his younger friend for a long moment and then shrugged. "Fair enough."

Mac narrowed his eyes a little at the scrutiny but let it go, glancing around the room.

"I do hope you're not planning to take your irritation out on your remaining classes." Cori remarked idly, his grey gaze sweeping over the cafeteria.

Mac actually smiled at that. "Who, me? Take my irritation out?"

"Oh, my mistake I must have thought you were a different red tabby." His tone was dry.

Mac smirked. "There could be more than one red tabby runnin' around this school. I ain't seen him but he could be here."

"Of course there could. I don't recall when I saw him, but he must be around somewhere." The mottled tom closed his textbook.

"Probably hidin' waitin' for the opportune time ta come out," Mac said, still smirking.

"As long as that opportune time doesn't involve a class disruption I don't mind much." Cori offered his friend a bit of a smirk. "Regardless, we'd best get to class..."

Mac growled softly, hoisting himself up and fishing around with one paw to find where he had dropped the bag. "It's not like you're even in the damn class," he muttered. "Won't affect your studies. The other idiots at this school I don't much care about."

Cori glanced at him as he picked up his own books. "That. That right there is what I'm talking about. What the hell has gotten into you, besides the usual?"

"The usual's enough," Mac answered. "Though I hate the fact it's already Sprin' Semester, which means soon enough I'll be watchin' out for my two brothers runnin' around the house all the time and figurin' out ways to keep them away from dear ol' pops as much as possible. It means you'll be graduatin' and then next year I'm stuck with idiots the whole damn time for company. And that damn nurse."

Cori was more than familiar with Mac's usual issues with second semester, but his eyebrows rose at the comment regarding his own graduation. "Would you feel better if I failed all of my classes this semester?" His tone was almost dry, he'd already gotten accepted into law school and his parents would have his hide if he couldn't go due to losing his grades the last semester.

That actually got a faint laugh from Mac. "Naw, I'd hate ta see you skinned by your parents. Just somethin' new to worry about. I've been through worse," he said, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "Will go through worse. Just not happy about it on top of everythin' else."

"Well, there's always letters and I'll be home most breaks likely."
((No you won't...))
